Hi all
I just wanted to let you know of the sad passing of my friend David Sampson a supporter for over 50 years.
Dave was one of my closest friends since our schooldays together back in the early 1970's
Affectionately known as "Big Dave" if anybody saw us standing together that would appear obvious. In fact his him Mum called us Laurel & Hardy !
We stood on the popside or in the mini stand if United were trying to attack that end in the 70s and early 80s.
During those years we would travel the country on the supporters coach to those exotic northern towns such as Workington, Carlisle and Darlington . Happy days !
After that we moved over to the Enclosure so we could give the linesmen and the best policeman ever at Plainmoor Neil Stanlake some stick ......and we did LOL !!
During the building of Bristow's Bench Dave had a seat in the Family Stand towards the Popside.
We would pop up to the Gulls Nest for a post match drink and he loved to talk to fellow fans about the game.
It was around about this time that his health problems worsened and I could no longer drive him to games
Covid , post Covid and his mobility stopped him from attending matches but he always tuned into the radio commentaries.
United have lost a big supporter in every sense of the word and I have lost a dear friend.
There will be a service at Torquay Crematorium at 10.30 this coming Monday if anybody on this forum knew him and want to pay their respects please feel free to come along
RIP Dave
