The Drama of the next 49 Days in the NLS

After back to back away wins we are back in contention with 9 games to play of which 5 are at Home.

Win the 5 Home games, get a point at Dorking and Truro, and win away at Aveley 24th and Hemel Hempstead and we get 23 points making 90. It is doable.

But the real drama is in the Fixture List. Taking the Top 7 Teams as of today 5 of Dorkings last 9 games are against the Top 7 and 3 of the 5 are away from home.

Worthing have 10 to play and 3 are against Top 7 teams. Torquay, Truro and Eastbourne all have 2 games against Top 7 teams.

It is impossible to predict but although we are currently 6th it could be very different on Tuesday if we beat Salisbury at Plainmoor.

COYY we can do this. Make sure you get down to Plainmoor on Tuesday night 19-45 KO.

The top six 'head to heads' mean points have to be lost in the system somewhere so I get why they are focused on.

But we're also getting into the vinegar strokes of the season where massive coupon busting surprise results come from teams fighting for survival. Look at some of the results at the end of last season where Weymouth, Truro and Chippenham defied the odds... yourselves to a point too in those circumstances.

We've got Aveley tomorrow and looking at their backs to the wall, bodies on the line performance at Boreham Wood yesterday only a fool would consider going there to be a 'gimme'.

We've got Enfield away last up too and I want them confirmed up or down long before then or that's got 'Custer's last stand' written all over it.

From now on in, for us, for you, for every team still in with a sniff of promotion, the play-offs and survival... (cliché alert)... every game is a cup final.

Up, down or into the play-offs, the teams that prevail won't be the ones who win their respective 6 pointers, they'll be the one's that can also grind out results in the less glamorous fixtures... the long old poke's to Aveley, the wet Tuesday's in Salisbury etc.

All respective allegiances aside, it's a fascinating league this year

Yes we do, all sorts of things are discussed, and all sorts of supporters from other clubs are both welcome and welcomed. As a Devon lad myself I'm interested in, and warmly disposed to TUFC too... the chippy passive aggression though is somewhat harder to warm to.

TUFC do not exist in an isolation bubble for these 49 remaining days of the NLS season. There are other teams involved and I figured some wider perspective might be of interest... clearly not.

I guess it's not the Torquay way, I get it now

Which would people prefer? A storming season with it all sewn up by now rendering the last games pretty much friendlies or a close run season and not know the champions till the last game of the season?

Take your pick, boring or nailbiting ?

Nah. Don't get bent out of shape here. I for one appreciate your presence and adds colour to the otherwise yellow only chat. Your first post above about Worthing's run-in makes good points and adds perspective.

Thank would be the 24 points.
Possible but allows only one slip up.

To finish second with two home play off games to go up, I'd estimate we'd need seven wins.

I think 2nd feels more realistic. Plainmoor sold out for 2 playoff games would be exciting.

I think if we win tues and draw at least on Saturday then the lads confidence will be very high.

A win tomorrow night is crucial. The confidence it will give the squad will be immense. 3 wins on the spin with the trip to Dorking on Saturday should give them boost. A decent away following will help too!

ps: Keithsson... take no notice of the negative comments about Worthing. All views (from whichever club in the NLS) are welcome as far as I'm concerned.

I'll second the feelings of United 62, fans of other clubs enrich the comments on here and also give a different perspective as to how our club is viewed. We do tend to be a miserable collective but who wouldn't given our history of joyous occasions followed by heartbreak.

Personally i feel realistically our best bet is top 3 & see what we can do in the play offs, even if we don't go up i’ve seen enough good things to be optimistic for next season. But you never know we could just do it

Keithesson i think it’s great to have insight from fans of other clubs, i wouldn't tar us all with same brush from one poster. Although i will say it’s cheeky not having us down as a rival to look at results wise tomorrow in your post on your own forum, let’s see how that goes shall we ;)

Definitely take the easy championship and a canter to the end of the season rather than risk it all blowing up in our faces.

When you put it like that it's a very tall order to win it now. Anything less than a Worthing win at Aveley tonight would be a major shock then even 4 wins and a couple of draws from their last 9 gives them 88
so we would need 7 wins out of 9 !
I think we would need to win tomorrow and at Dorking to remain in with a chance.
Just have to try and get that second place

I have just predicted the outcome of the remaining matches of the current to seven teams. I can not see any other side "gatecrashing".

Champs. Worthing
2nd. Dorking
3rd. Torquay

4th. Boreham Wood
5th. Truro
6th. Maidstone
7th. Eastbourne

That would mean that;
Truro v Maidstone would be played on 29th April with Boreham Wood v Eastbourne the following day in the eliminators.

The semi finals
Dorking v winner of match one will be played on 3rd May
Torquay v winner of match two will be on Sunday 4th May.

The final will be played on the highest ranked sides home ground....so if Dorking win their semi final, they will host the final. The only scenario for it to be played at Plainmoor, would if Dorking lost and we won.

A long way to go but will soon be over. Anyone got any ideas????

To go up with two home play off wins would be the most enjoyable way to do it.
