[OS] PREVIEW | United Women Face Pucklechurch At Plainmoor

Post by Guest »

Penultimate fixture is promotion-chasing United’s latest test United play their penultimate league fixture back at Plainmoor on Sunday, knowing nothing short of victory will do, to take the South West Regional Women’s Premier League to the final fixture of the season at Sherborne, in a week’s time. Plainmoor’s been a happy hunting ground for United’s ladies, who beat Sherborne two seasons back, and scored some cracking goals in the 4-0 win over Bishops Lydeard back in March, in this campaign. This week it’s Pucklechuch Sports Ladies who visit South Devon.  It will be their final fixture, and with the two sides above them having already completed their games, will know that a win for them would secure a sixth place finish. Torquay were comfortable 5-1 winners in the reverse fixture in Bristol and they will want more of the same, considering the imperious form they are in.  Ten games unbeaten (9 wins and the vital goalless draw at Marine Academy Plymouth) coupled with five successive clean sheets has set up the grand finale to season 24/25.  Errors now are not an option. Pucklechurch have 22 points from their nineteen games (6 points have been deducted) with 7 wins, 7 draws and just 5 defeats to their credit.  So, victory for the hosts is not a given, and Torquay will need another measured performance to take the three points they need to head towards the holy grail in Dorset over the bank holiday weekend.  The visitors have held both M.A.P. and Forest Green to draws and ran Sherborne close in a seven-goal thriller three weeks ago. Amy Jeffries leads Pucklechurch scorers with 11 goals to her credit. Sophie Sweet has five and Mia Blazey four. Not amazingly high scorers, but still able to punish United, if Lee Mann’s team are not on their game. United still have Lucy Solloway aiming to be the league’s top scorer and it could come down to a showdown with Sherborne’s Chloe Snook, next week.  Torquay’s leading striker chipped a bone in her foot in the draw at M.A.P. so must be a question mark, and Mann is also without the services of wingers, Chloe William and Emily Elliott, who both have knee injuries Sunday’s Plainmoor encounter kicks off at 2 pm, with tickets available through the club ticket website at https://torquayunited.ktckts.com/event/tortuwfc2425/torquay-united-women-v-pucklechurch-sports-ladies As ever though, if you can’t be there, you can still listen to live radio commentary online at https://tufcwomen.mixlr.com/events/3787092 and we will be on air from 1.45 pm.The post PREVIEW | United Women Face Pucklechurch At Plainmoor first appeared on Torquay United.
