Sponsored Skydive

Post by tufctillidie »

Hi my name's Matt Hayman and I've been a crohn's sufferer since february 2009. The past 2 years have been the hardest years of my life. Before i got diagnosed with crohn's disease i knew nothing about it at all, the only thing i knew is that my great grandmother had colitis which is also an IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) But since 2009 NACC have helped me so much in coming to terms with it and letting me know what it's all about, the things they do for IBD patients is extraordinary. They do everything they can to help you with what ever you want to know, or hear, they do lots of fundraising days and there are a lot of day to day activities that NACC organize. So to raise money for NACC i will be doing a sponsored skydive on 26/11/2011 so please donate money for a good cause, NACC do an outstanding job and every penny will help hundreds, even thousands of IBD patients out there that need the help and support of NACC and there local hospital.

It would be great if my fellow yellow fans could sponsor me for such a great cause here's the link to my justgiving page
https://www.justgiving.com/Matt-Hayman

Many thanks

Hey Matt
A guy after my own heart. I have had serious bowell desease for the last 10 years eventaully diagnosed as Crohnes and Diverticulitis. They didnt know that DV sometimes caused crohnes and I've lived in a world of pain ever since. Even had half removed but to no avail. Plus the sky dive is the day after my birthday. Sorry I wont be able to dive with you. something to do with fear of flying..(well its more fear of crashing into the ground really) but I wil def sponsor you near the time and wish you all the best. I am doing a walk for Cancer research (walk for Carol) would be good to see any other charity do's on this site if anyone is looking to do anything.

Hi there gloster

sorry to hear that, as i said i got diagnosed back in february 2009, just a few days after my 19th birthday, over the past few years i must of had about 10 hospital admissions due to my crohn's i know how painful it can be an it is the worst feeling in the world, in october last year they finally decided it was time to operate, so after a grueling 4 hour operation and 8" less of my bowels, i came out of the operating theater a new me, the first 6weeks where agony but i gradually got better and to this day i haven't had a single pain what so ever, i was reluctant to have the operation, but now i would never go back, and the work NACC do for IBD patients is amazing. all the best for your walk, it's a shame you couldn't jump too, sure it would of been a really good birthday experience but if you can maybe come down and watch me do it? all the best on the walk mate

Hi Matt,

Hope alls well. I'm willing to move this one onto the main board and sticky it so it can gain a bit more interest. Not sure if I'm allowed, so should I be in the wrong, another mod/admin can move it back.

Must be a Matt thing, I have a mate, Matt Wade, who also has Crohn's (apostrophe usage?) Poor bastard, hurts like hell. And to top it all off, he's ugly as sin.

Matt. (seemingly, the odd one out)

Hi mate,

Just sending my donation now.
In future use http://mydonate.bt.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as they don't take any admin fees, all 100% of donations go to the charity.

Good luck mate, I couldn't do it!

Fair play Matt, good luck I will go to the site and donate what I can. Your right about NACC they really do help beyond the cause. I'd like to advetise your cause a little if I may.

In brief I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1987 shorlty after getting married (don't think getting marrage caused it lol) like Matt said it's an instant life changer. It cost me my job, that I loved, eventually as I was in the RAF at that time. I had long periods of flare ups but also long periods of settled times. About ten years ago I was diagnosed with spondylotic artritis a condition thats caused as a direct result of bowel disease, that when active really is crippling. Earlier this year my coltis manifested it self into crohns disease. More recently I was quite poorly with pyoderma gangrenosum another condition caused directly by bowel conditins. Not nice, trust me.

However after taking enough steriods to make an elephant hyperactive I am now well so it's not all doom and gloom but I would urge people to give what they can to Matts cause to this almost invisible condition thats so so debilitating.

Again good luck Matt and fair play to you.

I'm sorry to hear that mate. shortly before i got diagnosed with crohns, i was going to join the RAF, but then i got ill and could not get round to doing it. Then in feb 2009 I got diagnosed with it. This to me was a massive blow for 2 reasons, 1.because i was only 19 and didn't want to live with it for the rest of my life, and 2.because i could not join the RAF or any other armed forces, it was soul destroying for me. As you say NACC do work beyond what they should, they have helped me get through these past 3 years and without them, this skydive would not be happening. I wish you health and happiness and all the best.

regards
Matt

Just like to say, it's just over 4 days till i jump out of a plane at 15,000FT, i would be lieng if i said i wasn't scared, quite frankly im shi****g it. But please if any of you could donate some money for a great cause i would grately appreciate it, not just me but so many other people, and there is a few on this site that would be so thankful. so please dig deep and donate what you can, it doesn't have to be much, but every penny will help Hundreds of people who have to live with IBD day in and day out, once again i thank you all and hope you will donate.
