Did anyone just hear a massive explosion from somewhere near Newton Abbot? It was my irony meter exploding.Gashead1979 wrote:
£2k a week is nothing, we had players on more than that last season and they got comfortable with it.
Didn't some club 'blow us out of the water' with a contract offer for an (almost) 33 year old centre back??
20 goals last season, 17 in league one......he'll do very well in league 2.
The last part of your post...yawn.
Matt.

Another piece of advice for you. If you want to be treated with respect on another clubs forum don't be a pillock. Some of us are a bit fed up with the attitude of some of your lot hence the digs.Gashead1979 wrote:
Thank you for youur advice and kind hospitality..
Perhaps if we stop mentioning your lot unless absolutely necessary you might get bored and go away until it is time for a bit of pre-match banter.
Anyhoo, I don't want to see another thread banished to the wilderness, so I'll shut up.
Toodles.

On the face of it, Cureton would be a good signing for anyone in this league. That's what Shrewsbury thought when they took him on loan year before last and he didn't score a goal in 10 games for them. He has previous with Rovers in terms of he's done well there before but so had Robbie Fowler when he was at Liverpool and I'm sure you could trawl through a load of clubs where people have re-signed and it's not worked out. Every transfer is a gamble, you just try to lessen it as much as possible Giving a what is he 35? 36? year old 3 years is utter lunacy and will leave you in the sh*t if it doesn't work out. Just because he scored 17 goals or whatever last season doesn't guarantee he'll do the same next year. That may have been his last hurrah, it might not have been but if it was and you've got him for 3 years on £2k a week. Good luck with that.
Again Rovers making big noises in the transfer market but when you evaluate the business they've actually done it's not that impressive.

Can't see it being 3 years.
I heard he was only looking for one but didnt want to drop to league two.
I agree some players lose it totally from one season to the next, like Dean Windass and for us Richard Walker.
You could look at it that he could repay that all back and more if he helped us get promoted at the first time of asking??
Personally, I will imagine theyd offer lower basic wage and then lots of incentives....thats the way we are dealing with contracts now. We had a rep for being good payers, agents knew that, but we have been told those days are gone.
I think Jamie sorted out his fitness from his spell at Shrewsbury, plus he had no service for them at that time, I know cos I watched him play for them a few times.

If it's a one year deal then it's worth a punt, I'd heard 3 years but of course it could be wrong information until it's out in the open.
I'm not saying it's sdestined to fail or succeed just as ever you have to reduce the transfer risk as much as possible, giving 35 year olds more than a years contract (unless they are a goalkeeper) is suicidal.
I know Cureton is a Bristol boy, he has a lot of feeling towards Rovers but he seemed pretty settled in Exeter. it's not exactly far from one to the other so I'd imagine you'd be offering him either more cash or more years on the contract or both to outbid a League 1 club that he's just done well for.

Sky sports saying Shrewsbury are signing Marvin Morgan and Gillingham are going to sign Danny Kedwell from AFC Wimbledon. both of those clubs Gills and Shrews will go close again next year.

I think Tisdales already said Cureton will probably be leaving Exeter or he'd have signed already.
He used to be my fave player when at Rovers. Its his final big payday and fair play to him but if he's holding out for more money then we should tell him where to go. Buckles spoken to him a few times yet says he doesnt sign anyone who stalls in signing.
A lot of our fans say they'll renew or buy ST's if we sign him, so could bring in more money that way as well

It wont be 3 years. That is what has gotten us into this mess in the first place giving players 3 year contracts on lucrative, extortianate money, players like Jeff Hughes, Daryl Duffy and Dom Blizzard, who were patheticaly sh*t and knew they were comfortable picking up their 3-4k per week for doing f*ck all.royalgull wrote:If it's a one year deal then it's worth a punt, I'd heard 3 years but of course it could be wrong information until it's out in the open.

Paul Buckle has come out and said, we will not be dishing out 3 year deals anymore, any deal will be incentive based judging on success.
Cureton is a Gashead through and through, as are his whole family who still live around the corner from the Mem, and this deal would make perfect sense for him, to come back to his boyhood, hometown club and have a final hurrah, Having his experience may also rub off on our promising young strikers Lamar Powell and Ellis Harrison.
It will be great to see Jamie in a Gas shirt again, as he is the best out and out striker and easily the best finisher I have seen at Rovers and we have had our fair share of gems.
I wouldn't say Jamie was settled in Exeter at all, He still has a pad in Bristol and is here a lot of the time.
I think it is a great move for both parties.
I did have reservations about this coming season, but I am optimistic about are chances, Cureton is a great cue, as is Michael Smith who has also signed today, he is a very promising right back, and the other signings we have made have all come with pretty good reports and references.
Also I am not rubbing it in when I say this but Buckles latest interview hints at another striker who can also play out wide, I may be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5, but I think this may be hinting at Zebroski.
