To borrow a line from Vic Reeves... "I really want to see those fingers!"

I do worry that we are going to end up with trialists to bolster our squad which would be an unwelcome return to the Bateson days. It has been obvious that at the very least we need a keeper and that was obvious before Ling was appointed. Maybe these things are not straightforward but Buckle has demonstrated (with us and now with Bristol Rovers) that if you have targets in mind and you want them, then you go and get them.

Ling's 'fingers in pies' analogy is perhaps an unfortunate one, because it stirkes an image of someone filling their face when they should getting on with the job in hand. Likening his job to a computer game was also perhaps not the cleverest thing to say because in that game you pretty much sign anyone you can and I sort of hope our manager knows who he wants to sign and would have done the hoemwork to know how likely it would be that they would sign. No point wasting time pursuing players who were never going to sign.

I want to like Ling and I want to think that he is going tot do well but it is all a bit slow at the moment and nothing is being done to reassure or allay fears especially when pre-season training starts in a matter of days.

judging by the picture of ML that accompanies this "10 fingers in 40 pies" topic, by the look on his face, it looks worrying like someone has their finger in his pie :-o

8 fingers and two thumbs surely! I hope he doesn't say anything like this again because he is starting to sound a little daft, as is the webmasters choice of headline.

I dont understand why people are worrying so much. Lings only been the manager for 2 weeks. Yes buckle has signed 8 /9 players by now but he has a full budget to use and ive not been inpressed by a few signings he has made.

We are in a market where we need to compete with other sides for the same players. We have not got a massive budget so we need to pick players that will be good. If noone has signed by the end of this coming week the i will start to think what is Ling doing, but players have been on holidays ect, and most will be returning at points over the last week.

Ling has had to sort himself out, his back room staff. I know he has been meeting our current squad and watching lots of dvds back of last season to see what he thinks of the current players he has got. He needs to see what he has got to then buy what will work with it. I expect Stevens, Oastler and 2 others to sign by the end of the week.

Agree entirely with that first paragraph, Brett. Of all the players he has signed since he's been at BR, there is one I would have had signed, and that is Stanners.
We were told before he arrived, that Dinger wouldn't be in any rush to sign people.

If we wait 'till the middle of August to sign the right people, even with all the downsides of that scenario, I'll be perfectly happy, and the club will be considerably better off as a result.

Matt.

We had a couple of Orient fans come on and tell us that dinger likes to take the considered approach signing players,so i have up to now not been concerned, hopefully this is the case, and targets have been indentified and approached, and over the next 10 days we start to see some action.

This is beyond stating the obvious, but surely we must see a goalkeeper arrive at the club as a priority,if there is no action next week, even i might to get a little edgey.
