Team GB?
Not to keen on the Idea, but if it were to happen I'm under the impression they'd have an 18 man squad including 15 under 23's and 3 open age players.
What team would you pick?
Craig Gordon (28)
Martin Kelly (21) Chris Smalling (21) Johnny Evans (23) Kieran Gibbs (21)
Gareth Bale (21) Jack Wiltshire (21) Aaron Ramsey (20) Adam Johnson (23)
Wayne Rooney (25)
Daniel Sturridge (21)

Is that meant to be Bale on the right wing?
Decen't team you've chosen, although whether it'll actually happen is another thing. Am I the only one that thinks the Irish, NI, Scottish and Welsh FAs are just being idiots about this. Fair enough, they want to keep their own identities but for a one off? Come on, they're just being pathetic now.

Spot on.
The other FA's are being absolute buffoons.
Although the thing I have reservations about is this U23 rule, the olympics used to be amateur but now it is no such thing as you have the likes of Federer and Nadal in the Tennis, Usain Boult is a millionaire, and what about the USA Dream Team Basketball side back in 92, So surely they should allow the best side to play regardless of age?
I think they have that rule so that it still allows the World Cup to be centre stage.
Also I dont think the likes of Gibbs, Smalling, Wilshire, Rooney and Sturridge will be taking part as the European Championships are only a month after the Olympics and I cannot see them taking part in both.

I don't think the U23 rule is quite so bad, good way to blood youngsters with a couple experienced heads thrown in. I agree that some of the bigger players won't be there. Rooney and Wilshere definitely won't be there, for Sturridge, Smalling and Gibbs it depends on how good a season they have next year. I think Smalling would find it tough to get in the team with players like Phil Jones already better than him. This also makes me wonder about Johnny Evans in that squad, I don't think he'll get a look in this year with Phil Jones at United now.BritishGAS wrote:Spot on.

Can't help feel I'm missing something here with this Team GB.
Am I a cynic? well maybe but why do we want or need a team GB? and why now? I just don't believe the "so we can compete in the Olympics" reason. Why are the FA so up for it? And who at the FA EVER suggested Stuart Pearce should be the man to manage it needs a check up from the neck up. FIFA have assured the Scotish FA and the like there is no threat to their national squads ect............. OK so since when have FIFA become the most credible organisation. To me it stinks of money spinners off the back of what happens afterwards.
STUART PEARCE don't even get me started on that plonk, you have to hand it to the guy just HOW does he do it? How does he get these positions in football? Does anyone seriously believe that when Fabio arrived for the England job and the asked him who he'd like to assist him his answer was Stuart useless Pearce and Ray hang about and do sweet fa Clemence please!

Having secured tickets for the Olympic footy at Cardiff I looked into the tournament in a bit more detail.
It seems the team will be made up of under 23's with just 3 "overaged" players in each team.
Now assuming the GB olympic football commitee go down the PC road and have an equal mixture of English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland players that leaves relatively few players, especially from Northern Ireland and Wales in contention.
Just wondered if that gives Euan O'Kane any chance of making the squad? Agreed it seems an outside chance, but a good start to the season, perhaps a move to a bigger club....and well starnger things have happened. I suppose it will all depend on if the selection commitee choose 80% English players or 25% English players

I don't have a problem with it. Surely with the Olympics in Great Britain we should enter a team. I'd let David Beckham have a place if he wants one, he played a big part in us getting the Olympics, would probably help inspire the youngsters and well it's obvious how much he wants to play.
