It was 2006 - when he played Portugal on his own! About the most dominating individual performance i've seen - alongside that given by Becks against Greece.

Problem with that is that they're already right up against the salary cap; before Frings and Hoevermans came along they only had about $217k left - each of those will contribute $167.5k towards the cap, so you'd have to assume that they've traded somebody away to meet the cap requirements. That is on top of the $250,000 'tax' they will have already had to pay to sign a 3rd DP. So they way it appears to me, they only way the could sigh Hargreaves was either as a non-designated player (unlikely; not only does that mean he'd be earning less than $335k, he'd also be at risk of mid-season trading due to MLS' single entity structure), or by freeing up cap space, and the only way to do *that* would be shipping out De Guzman - you can only have 3 DPs per team, and the other two have just signed.

I think it's more likely he'd go to Vancouver - they only have on DP to date (Eric Hassli, whose great goal you may have seen linked in Banter Board), plus Vancouver is far closer to Edmonton - where Hargreaves is from - than Toronto is.

I always wondered who was mentor to Paul Buckle.

Thanks for the insight Fonda. :clap:

I agree. Given Alberta is right next to BC I imagine he'd be more likely to go there, plus the fact that Toronto have Frings and De Guzman who can both play as a DM so don't really need Hargreaves. Toronto are pretty awful at times, though to be fair all three of their DPs didn't play in that Red Bulls game.

Actually, none of their DPs played last night; Frings and Koevermans can't play until after July 15th (transfer window) and De Guzman was injured. Still, New York were pretty good; Luke Rodgers is seriously in danger of putting himself in the frame for MVP reckoning;

Toronto have never actually been very good; this is their 5th season and they're yet to make the playoffs. They're struggling this time around too.
