New team captain
New team captain
Mansell is still 'club captain' but Brain Saah is the 'team captain' but not sure if that only means when Mansell is not playing or whether it means that Mansell is the 'real' captain but Saah will wear the armband and toss the coin.
Encouraging to read that O'Kane is on this 'players committee'...so he obviously is not going anywhere imminently.

Either the OS has got it completely wrong or the Herald Express has. The newspaper report was clear that Saah will be the Club Captain while Mansell will remain the Team Captain and will lead the team on the pitch. Club and Team captains have been used at other clubs and if the players get on and support each other it could be a significant decision towards our progress and squad unity .... as long as we can work out which way round it is! ![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/wink.gif)

I was going to say that, Stefano. Yesterdays Herald said they were the other way around. Still, it seems that Saah is a leader too, so it's good to have another strong character there.
I would suggest the O/S has it the wrong way round,if Mansell is to captain the side on match days,he surely must be the team captain,as club captain is a clubman role, iam guessing that will be Saah.
Players commitee, giving players responsibilty to think for themselves, there is a novel idea in football
,i can see new young ambitious managers wanting to adopt this idea soon.

In general, I'm liking all these new ideas. I only hope that this isn't just a polite way of elbowing Manse out of the picture.

I think Manse will be leading on the pitch, as I read somewhere when Ling first took over that he had already told Manse he was staying as captain and said that he had no reason to change that.

i did wonder if Ling would look at the captaincy. it's always a bit of a controvercial thing to do, new manager coming in and changing it, especially if the current skipper has done well in the role, but it sounds like Ling trusts and obviously knows Saah, and it does sound as if he's a leader on the pitch.
the other thing to consider, Saah is 100% sure to start the season, but bearing in mind the central midfield competition, will manse feature from the off ?? I hope he does, and keeps the captains armband, but Ling is in charge, and will want it done his way from the start, which is fair enough.

It is interesting regiment, a situation like this whereby a new bloke comes in (Saah) and almost straight away assumes the captaincy of the team given to him by the manager for whom he has previously worked exchanges positions with the old captain who is established at the club and knows most of the players. Manse is a true pro and would not harbour feelings of jealousy if this were to happen but the confidence shown in Saah by Ling would be notable. I have never seen Saah play or converse with the media but if he is better than Manse then we can all relax a bit.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I think Manse's place in the side is vulnerable to say the least, especially if the new RB from Newcastle impresses - I've never been a fan of Manse in CM at L2 level due to his lack of a good enough passing game, although I like other aspects of what he brings.
He could end up suffering as a bit of a jack of all trades.....although I guess it depends on the quality Ling can bring in, whether someone of Mansell's experience can be left out.
All in all, It seems a smart move by the manager....name more than 1 captain and nobody's place is secure.

I think it is clear to me that Lee Mansell is still the team captain.
Firstly we had this newspaper report.
http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/capta ... story.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the report on the O/S ling says...if manse is not on the pitch, the team captain,Brian will captain the side that reads to me that if Mansell is playing he will be the captain out on the pitch,i think in the O/S report stating Brain as the team captain is a word slip.

I seem to recall that we had this once before, when Steve Woods was the captain on the pitch, and somebody else was "club" captain, but can't for the life of me remember who that was.
Or did I dream it?
