My understanding of team captain is one who leads by exemplary example on the field of play, motivates, is the players voice to the referee, lifts aloft any won trophies . . .

My understanding of club captain is one who besides leads by exemplary example on the field of play and motivates, also tends to the welfare and pastoral interests of the playing squad with regard to, for example, PFA issues, and is the playing squad voice at boardroom level via/in conjunction with the manager/coaching staff.

At some clubs the role of team/club captain is one position, to save on costs, probably. ;-)
