As I've said before, I really do hope for all your sakes that Mr Ling has miraculously developed some basic managerial skills since February. if he hasn't, then be prepared for a very long season ahead.

Hmmm, the more I hear about the occurrences at CUFC during the early days of Dinger's reign up your way, the more convinced I am that Cambridge fans are shining the searchlight of blame into entirely the wrong campsite.
No offence meant, but that had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on his lack of managerial skills, poor signings and general under-performance in his role.
He was given all the tools he needed to build a good side, and failed more spectacularly than almost any other manager we've had in recent times.
to be fair Ling did fantastic job at orient before going to cambridge, he has shown he has the skills at this level he has a promotion at this level also, he had a bad time at cambridge sure but at this level with the squad we have amassed in the pre - season i think we'l be more than fine thanks for the concern tho tcp

I do feel sorry for you lot. Martin's idea of pass with purpose is get a tall striker, partner him with a little striker and tell the defence to boot the ball up to him. Totally ignoring the midfield.

Reading the stuff from the Fan's Forum, it does seem that Ling was sold a bit of a lemon when he agreed to take the Cambridge job. I for one am prepared to overlook his time at Cambridge - apparently Rolls gave Ling plenty of false promises. Not to say that Ling was entirely blameless in the debacle there (he said as much himself) but so far he's done everything he should have done.

Well on the evidence of all our pre-season games ,all i can say is the Martin Ling at Torquay is passing with purpose,because we have hardly seen a single long ball,or defender boot the ball anywhere,and completely out passed Exeter who are a passing side.
We have not got into the league programme so i would say the jury is still out,however on the evidence so far signing's,the way he has gone about his buisness,and the style of play,i would say the Cambridge Martin Ling has not turned up here at Torquay,because he seem's to be doing a good job so far.

I think it's entirely undestandable why Cambridge fan's feel the way do about Ling,i think the point that are visting u's fan's are missing is Ling has come to a club that is settled of the field has the full backing of the entire board,bigger player budget than he ever had at Cambridge.
Us gulls fan's can only judge Lingy on what we see,and so far,so good,gone about his buisness in a professional way,not given us any false promise's,not complained about the training ground,telling us it's no good,like Buckle,brought in some good players,and so far has delivered on a promise to play attractive football,no sign what so ever of any hoofball,long may it continue.
Managers aren't always succesful everywhere. A completely clueless manager that got Orient promoted and kept them there. Leyton orient! Who previously had been utter rubbish in this league. Paul Jewell, one of the worst managers ever if you listen to Derby fans. Bloke is a legend at Bradford and Wigan. Good manager? Phil Brown, took Hull up, struggled at Derby...theme here don't manage Derby! Darren Ferguson - disaster PNE, 3 promotions with Posh. Phil Parkinson disaster Hull, promotion Colchester. Alan Pardew disaster Charlton, promotion Reading and West Ham. There are countless other examples but they'll do for now.
Ling may yet be rubbish for us, a few pre season results doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things but he needs time and a chance here. I struggle to think of a manager that would do well with George Rolls as a chairman. Bloke is a bell.

Clueless? Having had Lubos Kubic and John Cornforth at the helm, I think we'll take our chances with Dinger. Has done a cracking job so far in the face of cynicism (my own included) and very little time

Spot on. I doubt Leroy is spoken of with great fondness at Brentford, but i've never enjoyed watching a Torquay side as much as his promotion winning team.
