The problem you will have with Carayol is injuries. If you play him for full matches you will get 4 or 5 games, then he will be out for a while. His spell at Lincoln was blighted exactly the same way and in his time here, he seemed to spend more time on the physios table than on the training pitch (by all accounts). I dont know if its a case of him playing too much as a kid and knackering his knees before they fully developed, but I would be surprised if you got over 30 games out of him this season. Shame cos he has plenty of talent.
One thing i will say about Stanley is, dont expect him to win any headers in midfield. I had it pointed out to me at a match last sesaon and thought that was c**p. I then paid close attention over the next 3 or 4 matches and sure enough, he always stepped back to try and get the ball on his feet than jump for a header..

I can't see how that is a bad thing!? A CM's job is to get the ball down and play it out to the wingers/forwards. The CM of the team is the "link up" player and getting the ball to his feet is the correct thing to do, rather than heading the ball back to the opposition. When you head the ball forward you’re more likely to lose possession, however when you get the ball down and look for a pass you are still in control of that passage of play and then you can look to go forward with some force.

The players that he knew more about and the players that he seemed 'friends' with, became instant choices in the starting 11 and even when on poor form, would still be played. He certainly had players that to me he thought were un dropable.

But, to be fair to him, that did change, yes he didn't go about it in the best way but when Woods, Hargreaves, Sills etc were no longer good enough, he got rid. I think he learnt that he's a manager now and can't be best friends with everyone. The fans critisised him a lot for those decisions but in the end, they were all right.

I expect that being at a new club, bringing in the amount of players he has, he has probably started doing the same. Don't expect these players to stay in the side if they are simply not good enough though, because he can be pretty ruthless. Do expect however, Zebroski to play in every single game whether he is playing well or not!
Sills got dropped and transferred when he and his missus found out about buckles affair....

To be fair I came on here straight after the game and congratulated you on the win(Evemn though I thought the Gas deserved a lot more) and I havn't been on since because of problems with the site.

You are obviously ecstatic about getting one over on Buckle, but I wouldn't read to much into it, this is a completely new team which had 10 new faces in the 11, Only Byron Anthony remained from last season, and it is going to take a while to fully get used to eachother, and I think we will be pretty inconsistent for the first 10 games or so, but from what I have seen once this team gets it act together we will take some stopping.

I dont think Buckle knowes his best 11 yet, Wayne Brown must start ahead of Stanley, Brown is technically the best midfielder in this league surely, and is wasted being on the bench, and Zebs has been very dissapointing, I cant seefor the life of me why Gulls fans were saying he is worth 175K???....I think we have paid far to much for him as it is, I sincerely hope he gets better because he hasn't been at the races all through pre season and the 2 league games he has played has looked awful. Carayol and Anyinsah should start ahead of him all day long, but as I said its early doors and hopefully he improves.

I think when we visit Plainmoor will be a far better reflection on where the teams are, and hopefully we can stuff you on our way to promotion and Paul Buckle will have the last laugh.

So once again fair play on the win, I know it meant an awful lot to you guy's, good luck for the rest of the season, I dont think you guys will be to far away come the end/

That only works assuming you then get posssession instead of the opposition winning the ball for the lack of a challenge. It doesnt matter if youre a "creative" CM or a "ball winning" one, gaining possession from the opposition to enable your own attacks is central to your role.

What bolleaux. Sillsy (nice guy as he is) just wasnt up to cracking L2 defences. You only have to look at his stats before he joined us and after he left us. Whilst a good non league striker he never cut it in the league. The only way to free up the money for replacements was to cut loose players that needed to go.

in fairness mate, yes, you've had big changes, but your manager has particularly chosen to bring in those 15 players, and got rid of the ones he didn't want. it's almost like he's assembled his "dream team" from scratch.

if you compare that to our situation, of course, the players Ling has added to the squad, are his signings, but when you consider the starting XI for us in the final league game of the season, compared to our line up yesterday, we can also claim to having a "new team". off the top of my head, there are only 4 players the same - Mansell (now playing in a different, but correct, position), Robertson, Nicholson and O'Kane. the other 7 were not in the team that finished last season (although one other, Stevens, was at least at the club). Most of those changes were nothing to do with our new manager, he came in and picked up the pieces.

it's a long season, both teams will improve, and come our next meeting in March, things may very well be different. If your team isn't where it should be by then, i'd guess Buckle won't get his big "homecoming" anyway.

anyway, all the best, come and visit us on here any time, and we'll see you all in March.

It was 2 clear goals dave :)

Maybe I was a bit naive in thinking that we would gel quickly, So fair play on the win.

But I am still very confident that once this team is functioning and firing on all cylinders we will give a few teams a right good old thumping.

I will be happy to put another bet on for the fixture down at Plainmoor too, I think we will be better suited to playing away from home, on the counter attack with the pace we have in the side, So I will be more than happy to put the same bet on for that match :~D

I could have sworn it was originally three, maybe wrong.
You know what BritishGas you've actually been quite a good sport when people like myslef have been all to ready to gloat after a win and I take my hat off to you for that. As a result I'll give you a tip.

Like you have rightly pointed out maybe you were a little hasty in that you didn't factor into your bet that new players would take time to gell. I made some decent money during Paul Buckle first two years here betting on the out come of TQY's games. Almost ashmed to admit this but whenever I heared there was turmoil in TQY camp I'd always bet against them, esp in multiple bets, and esp if they where away. There is no such thing as a certainty in betting but PB falling out with players is about as close as you'll get. Bear that in mind in the bookies on matchday and you won't go far wrong.

It was three originally Dave but since we haven't lost by three clear goals in a LEAGUE match for quite a while (I forget how long it's been, someone said it somewhere on here) SG thought it fairer to reduce it to two.
