Anyone bothering going to Cheltenham?

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

So it is almost upon us. The long awaited spectacle that is the Johnstones Paint Trophy, oh the pride, the passion. I suppose the debate i want to put out there to all you fellow Gulls is, IS ANYBODY BOTHERED? From my own personal perspective i think the competition should be scrapped. We play mediocre teams everyweek in the league and at least the CC or FA Cup gives us a chance of a draw against one of the big boys. All the JPT does is ensure we play other teams like ourselves with the reward of playing a slightly better mediocre team like Yeovil or Carlisle in the final. I support the Gulls and sympathise with the lads as they have to play these games but i would rather us get hammered on purpose at Cheltenham and concentrate on the important stuff like the league and other 2 cups.I am not a hypocrite and would still not go if we got to wembley in the JPT because i am not a glory hunter. I don't know how much it costs us to host home games in the JPT but with dire attendances i would have thought that with the cost of paying staff to work on matchday etc that we would actually lose money. The second questioni want to ask, is anybody going to cheltenham and how many fans do you think we will take?
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I'm not. Partly because I havent had time to book it off work. Partly because I'm not really bothered. I'd rather we play a weakend side and save our selfs for a tough home game against an inform Macclesfield side where it matters in the league.

After making the effort to go to Swindon last season and watching a weakened team i won't be bothering this time around.

I know the early matches can be a bit of a bind but there is at least a chance to get a day out at Wenbley and that is well worth the opportunity. We have been there twice albeit that the second one was at Millenium stadium but both were great day outs even though we lost both games. We took 40,000 fans to both events and it was just great to see that mass of blue and white. The games do also give you a chance to use a couple of fringe players and give them a game. You look like you have a difficult game at Cheltenham as I cant see them playing a weakened team and in respect to your supporters that travel I believe you should select a team to win the game. Be fair how many supporters would travel if they knew they were going to watch the reserves?
For most clubs in League 1 and 2 it is the only realistic chance of playing in a cup final at Wembley and there is quite a bit of money there if you get there. I could be wrong but im sure the attendances at both our finals was in excess of 60,000 people and then you have the extra revenue of shirts bought for the event by a lot of the people who dont usually go and all the other associaited souvenirs.
I am sure wycombe will not field a weakened side against us this year as they will feel they have as good a chance as any of getting to the final this year.

As you ask, there you go matt.

Im not sure what game it was, but all i know was the team only had 1 away fan and they won, So the fan was on his own celebrating the win.
Do us proud matt

I wont be going as tuesday games are hard to do, but if we win i really wouldnt mind. If we got to the fianl noone would mind playing at Wembley. But heyho we wont ven get that far.

I am not bothering, if it was a ground I have not been to then maybe, but I am going to save my money and go to a game that will mean something to us.

I don't think the JPT is that bad for clubs. Play the reserves, give some kids a game in competitive matches, and if you get near the final take it seriously.

I'm not going though...

I think it could be a really low gate at this game, despite Cheltenham's great win on Saturday. I have just been on the CTFC site and there is no mention of reduced admission prices at all.Anything more than a tenner and I think it could be a 3 figure gate

It is the faithful Leigh RMI fan at Dagenham. There is another picture in circulation of him on his own on the whole side terrace at Woking.

Aldershot and Accrington should take note - Leigh RMI had by far the highest flags-to-fans ratio in the conference. I was gutted our stay down there didnt coincide with theirs.

It's my 'local' game so I'll be joining Ferrari to swell the away support by 100%. If I had a dog then I'd bring that too..... :scarf:

Adults £12
Old Gits (e.g Southampton Gull) £8
