The next five games
A dozen games into the season usually gives everyone a reasonable idea as to how teams in the League will be shaping up over the coming months. So far, everybody has been beating everybody. Last week, Bradford drew away to Morecombe, who beat Crawley 6-0 yesterday, Rotherham lost at Swindon, and Cheltenham lost at Aldershot who are currently eighteenth in the League.
The next five games, the Gulls will play four high fliers: Cheltenham (H), Rotherham (H), Shrewsbury (A), and Morecombe (H), followed by Bradford (A). Great opportunity for the Gulls to show what they are made of, if only they could reproduce their form at Bristol Rovers. Recent games have shown they need to step up a gear for the whole ninety minutes, and one or two individual players need to work on their form and fitness, but when they do get it all together they'll be a match for most teams.
If only they could do it over the next five games! What are the chances?

Well we should beat Bradford, I don't think they've got that great a team.
Cheltenham will be tough, I won't mind losing to them so much, same with Rotherham (although both are good chances of stealing a win or going home with a point).
Shrewsbury we should be good against going on recent history and Morecambe, I think, will be on their slide back down the table by then.
Anywhere between 6-9 points would be a good haul from those 4 games, would be very happy with 10 points including Bradford.

No reason why we cant win all our home games. All tough i agree but i feel a few wins at home could do us well. At the same time it wouldnt suprise me if we lost all three, but i really hope not.
The two away games, i would take a point away at each of them now, i feel shrewsbury are a complete different side to what they were last season and maybe to strong for many sides this season.
I agree with Cambgull that 6-9 points would be good. Even though i feel we should get at least 7.

I think we have already had a test with some of the away matchs played so far, Rovers , Daggers and Northampton are never easy places to go, not forgetting Aldershot aswell, and we have seen the team gain an outstanding points return of 8 from 12.
Think last week's home win against Macc was very important, as we all know the longer a winless home run at the start of the season goes on, the more restless the fan's get , and the players become more nervous, the team should have gained a lot of confidence from that, so no reason to fear these games what so ever.
I agree also with Cambgull a 6-9 point hual from these games would be fantastic, putting the team up around the 20 poiont mark and give us a real platform to build from, for the rest of the season.

From an outsiders point of view I would say 10 points from those 5 games will be a fantastic return.IMO you will beat Cheltenhambut the other 4 could go either way. The only one of those sides we have played are Bradford and IMO they are a good side with two very skilful wingers who will win quite a few home games. They also got a very good point at Morecombe. Of the games we have played so far I would say that Crawley were the best by a mileand that yourselves were of a similar standard to Northampton who I think will soon move up the league. Hereford were dire and to only draw that was a disaster.I would say your home games against Rotherham and Morecombe will give strong indicatiuons of how you will do and with us I think the same will be able to be said after our next 3 games-Shrewsbury and Aldershot at home and Morecombe away. I have the feeling that you will find Shrewsbury a completely different proposition this year and add to that they will obviously be out for revenge. Anyway I will predict 8 points for you from those 5 games with 2 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat. I have the feeling your defeat will be Bradford away.

Expextations have been raised by our start to the season. Realistically five points would be a reasonable return from those five tough games. But we start every game with the intention of maximum points so who knows.

Rotherham, Cheltenham and Morecambe at home and Bradford and Shrewsbury away is a very difficult run of games for us but it just shows that in league 2 every game is difficult, They say the Championship is the most competetive its ever been but i think that applies to l2. Plymouth are struggling badly at the moment but could pick up if their financial issues get resolved, Hereford and Macc look poor but are capable of taking points of other teams at the top and the rest, well take your pick as to who will beat who on any given matchday. Looking at the next 5 fixtures i would be happy with 6 points but you just never know. It makes for an exciting season anyway.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

We ought really to be beating Cheltenham at home and, despite their present elevated position, I still cannot take Morecambe seriously. If Rotherham are as bad as they were against Swindon on TV, they ought to be dispatched. Bradford are utter tripe and have been for a number of years now and we have the hoodoo over Shrewsbury. It won't happen like that, of course, but I think we should be looking for a point against Rotherham at home and Shrewsbury away, and given their present form, Morecambe home too and three points a-piece from Cheltenham and Bradford. 9 from 15 isn't a bad return and, as an average over the whole season sees us finish with 82/83 points, more than enough, I'd say.

Pretty slim chance that Torquay won't lose a game over the next 5. Of course teams have gone on (and we have too) 7/8 game undefeated streaks and more but realistically I don't think we are a side that will do that too often. Cheltenham will be a decent game, it's the best side they've had since we've been back in the league. Score draw for me, another draw v Rotherham, loss to Shrewsbury, beat Morecambe, draw with Bradford. So that's a conservative tally of 6 points. i think we're a middle of the road side for this league with a slim outside bet of the playoffs. I think we'll probably see that over the next 5 games, but hey who knows. Maybe we might win them all?!
