There isn't anything at fault with Robertson's ability to play football (apart from his shirt pulling and tendency to let the ball bounce instead of getting in there and putting his nut on it).

You don't EVER let the boo boys grind you down.

Does Dorothy ever react ? Nope, she just hides from the ball.

Does McPhee ever react ? Nope, he just fails to do better than expected when the opportunity presents itself.

As for the Robertson/Dave Harris incident . . . the one man band judge, jury and lynch mob is still out.

When Dorothy came on, I thought here we go, I'll be following Harris to the Stewards naughty step.

Yeah i remember Wayno on a couple of occasions away at Lincoln a few years ago especially, he was getting dogs abuse from some of the away fans (not me i hasten to add - i had no reason to do this as i didn't think there was too much wrong with how he was playing) anyway he turned to the fans and shouted something back. He wasn't to happy. Wayno did indeed come through all the flak and credit to him for that. He was a decent player which helps. Robbo is a good player and he should just ignore the fans, after all he is good enough to move on to a 'bigger' club and may choose to do so should the berating continue. Our loss. If we all gave Stevens shedloads of abuse though he may decide to cut his losses at the end of the season and look for work in Tesco instead. Masterplan!
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Robertson for me, is the best defender, because he can do the job at centre half and rightback. LRT has shown that he can do a job at leftback, further forward and quite probably, could do reasonably well at centre back.

Then there's the consistency of Nicholson, Ellis grinding his teeth and Saah still getting up to the speed of League 2 after playing in the unforgiving BSP.

Have to admit I think Stevens is decent. Hes the type of player which is good to bring on for the last 20 Minites or so to run at tired legs and cause problems...I dont see him as a starter but I think hes a good impact sub to have.

So called supporters who direct personal abuse at their own players are almost certainly of low intelligence, lead unsucessful lives and get a high from drawing attention to themselves by their behaviour. We do not need them at Torquay United.
Unfortunately in todays world there are a lot of moronswho are beyond the pale. The Board should ban them if genuine supporters know who they are.
It is time to name and shame. Action speaks louder than words.

forevertufc wrote:I did this thread not just to talk and the Robertson incident, but to look at what stage constructive critcism becomes personal abuse, also when the right time to level critcism is, and whether us the fan really do have the right , to say what we want, when we want to a player.

Firstly construtive critcism, nothing wrong with that at all, whether it is a discussion between fans in the ground or pub, or on a fans forum after all this is what forums are about surely.

Reading back through this thread i now have an idea at what has been shouted at him not just Saturday but away to Shrewsbury aswell, there is a line and the line has been crossed from critcism, he in my view has been a victim of personal abuse from some TUFC fans, thats is not acceptable no matter what, and his reaction whilst un-professional, you have to remember Chirs Robertson is a human being like us all, so understandable.

It has been mentioned Robbo got sloppy for little while, there is the proof of the pudding if were ever needed, how does abusing a player help one the player or two the team, we could very well of let a goal during that time, i supose the people behind this abuse would have said...there you go told you Robbo was sh#t, whilst being to moronic to realise they were the cause of the mistake that could have led to the goal going in against us.

AustrianAndygull, i am not have a pop at you, i dont know you, and you may well be a throughly decent lad, however the mentality you have displayed is what i am focusing here, how does any player no matter what deserve automatic abuse? Come on, it is not Danny fault that the club chose to employ him as a footballer, or the manager see's fit to use him as a player, i have never seen Danny go out and play a lazy game, or make a mistake because he simply does not care, he has been put in the team short on confidence, and i am not to sure he has enough about him to cut it in league, niether his fault, i would hate for him to turn around like one these premier league panzy's a say sorry boss i am not in the right frame of mind to play.

I think as a fans group we are guilty of not forgiving a player, either for a bad game against a rival, or a sucsession of bad games, all players go through, and player deserve a second chance.

My only hope is we will go out now and leave our players alone, and start focusing on just supporting the team, they need to get back to winning ways soon, and for that, they will need our help.

Sorry forever i did not want to give the impression that i would go straight for Dannys throat in terms of abuse the moment he entered the field of play. Just that in the context of the Robbo debate, i can wholly understand it if fans around me did so and i would not have a problem with it as i agree with them. I may not contribute to the hurling of the abuse myself. Like in Robbos case there are 2 arguments, does Robbo deserve the abuse and is it acceptable to boo/heckle our own players. For me in the case of Robbo again i haven't seen his last two performances so can't comment but i have seen games week in week out where Stevens has been like a ghost and not a very good ghost either. Certainly not like Rentaghost or Casper. I personally think that it is ok to make your feelings known to players as long as you don't step over the mark and that the criticism is justified. Oh and i am a decent lad but just have strong opinions some eccentric but i am not a neanderthal, a chav, a racist or a janner!

Portugull, i don't want the waters to get murky here but going back on what i said on my previous post. I believe it is ok to shout criticism at players who may be deserving of it i.e lack of effort/laziness BUT not acceptable to shout PERSONAL abuse such as about players families or stuff like that. If that makes me of low intelligence ( i have a degree and am not setting the world alight but holding my own in this harsh economic world ) then you have a stereotypical view of the midset of football fans. As someone who doesn't eat meat , i often see obese fans at half time shoving fat laden pies down their necks with no thought of what is in them ( scrapings from the abbatoir floor actually) or where they came from. Perhaps these people are of low intelligence and are a failure in society too?

The problem with that is, the attendances are so low at the moment, we're probably talking about the Popside being decimated. :O

Some, who are careless with their "constructive" criticism, are also generous with their appreciation and join in readily with (8)YELLOW ARMY (8)

Outright foul language is unfortunate, unless it's directed towards the w*nker with the whistle or the w*nker running the Popside line. ;-)

Trojan 67 you seem to be suggesting that half the Popside are abusing our own players!

Some of the Popside indeed do. How many some is varies.

I was stood directly behind Dave Harris on Saturday and immediately alongside John Bartlett. What was said went in one ear and out the other because I maintained a professional attitude and focused on the game.

When the Stewards came for Harris, I thought they'd come for me. :O

Then I thought that can't be right, Dorothy isn't on yet. ;-)

There are many times when I have been on the Popside and people having been shouting and talking absolute rubbish. Look again, some of these people are just too thick to do anything else. Sounds a little insulting but they don't have the sense to keep quiet. Everything they think, they have to shout. They are a little limited.

Some of the thoughtless abuse comes from those who have never played the game.
Some of it comes from those who have played, but only at a p*ss poor level and certainly not in front of a crowd in a pressure cooker environment.

How then would they know what it's like out there ? They don't and neither do they have the nuts about them to see the play from the players point of view.

Biggest crowd I played in front of was reported as just over 2000. The next biggest crowd was at a Gentleman's Night at the 400 when the tart with tits sat on my face.

One thing I did notice was that after Robertson reacted to the idiot's comments it was Robertson that got the majority of the cheers from the rest of the crowd. The fact that Bartlett was on the idiots side says it all
We all have a go at player mistakes but unless unless you have a big mouth like Harris the comments are only heard locally
Of course it doesn't help the players but I think it is only a natural reaction.
If the player does hear it only adds to their frustration, they know when they have made a mistake and are (or should be ) even more pissed off than we are
