Just seen the tragic footage of the accident that's cost him his life, puts everything else into perspective.

Where is this footage, Dave? It's an odd thing to want to see, but for a rider that good to die doing the thing he loved, there must be something we can learn from the footage.

Not sure it's online yet, Matt, I recorded it to watch after the rugby, made me feel sick. he was veering across the track from left to right and was hit by Edwards and then Rossi and appeared to be hit by both his and Edwards bike. His helmet came off in the collision which is what made me fear the worst initially.

Edit: Found it

Truly sickening.

Watched it before it was taken down.

Not pleasant to watch.

Appeared to be spark out before coming to a halt.

Something was wrong before the collision, appeared to be decked clinging on to his bike.

Well, clearly, he is already unconscious before the impact, hence no attempt to recover the slide (it's not a slide, its his dead weight pulling the bike sideways, it WOULD be a slide if he'd have been awake). Terribly sad. At least this was a freak incident, unlike the NASCAR debacle last week.

How did his helmet actually come off? In the crash with Edwards?

Absolutely awful. RIP Marco.

I see Rossi is probably going to quit now aswell.

I think it was actually Rossi's front wheel that impacted with Simoncelli's head and caused the helmet to come off. that could explain the rumours as he looked distraught almost immediately.

I was told that there is some footage that shows Simoncelli didn't collide with anyone or pass out as Matt suggested but was trying to regain control of the bike after running wide at the previous corner, if I can find it I'll put a link up.

Slid out wide and was trying to keep hold of the bike. Such a tragic accident.

I see what's happened now, he's copped a lowside and it's just a freak accident that he managed to get the bike to the point where it would grip to pull him across the track (rather than simply sliding off the left hand side) but not with sufficient grip that it would stand him up or flip him into a highside. Poor bastard.

You can see Rossi shaking his head afterwards. Truly shocking.
