Type of game where if we were at home it would give us a decent chance of going through but away from home will probably just be edged out tbh. Least we can concentrate on the League.

Come on folks, lets not be so defeatist. Its the cup and you never know what will happen. I don't buy it this 'least we can concentrate on the league' stuff . The FA Cup is sacred to us smaller lower league opposition and would fans prefer it if we WERE beaten by Chesterfield so we can then look forward to another massive home game (not) or would fans prefer we beat Chesterfield and got to round two. Nothing but total commitment to the FA Cup is required from all lower league fans and players/managers otherwise we may as well withdraw.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Unbelievably defeatist comments.

Chesterfield aren't unbeatable at all - we should go up there and give it our all and we might just sneak a win.

Ok when ball 44 came out I thought it was a shit draw and still is in some respects, another long journey on the motorways. However if this was being played 12 months ago I would agree we would lose easily enough but not now. I no we are not exactly playing at our best but last couple of games has certainly made everyone feel a bit better. Im not sure what exactly has gone wrong with Chesterfield after their promotion but they are in the relegation places with just three wins so their confidance will be low and by all accounts they didnt play well at Brentford. There must be a great chance that we can at least get a draw there or if it all works out win the tie up there. Its amazing how many league two clubs win against league one sides in the cups so its all to play for. Plus the money for getting through will be a massive help, wouldnt expect much more than 3000 crowd there, especially if they cant beat Yeovil at home this saturday.

When this draw came out must admit my first thoughs, oh hell what an awful draw, however thinking about it, why cant our team win up there, they have drawn 1 and lost 6 of there last 7 league games they cant be full of confidence right now, maybe not such a bad draw after all

Its the fa cup, Who knows we could draw up there and bring them back to plainmoor and win.

Leon Clarke is scoring goals for them, and would be a massive threat but hes not unstoppable.

They are 3rd from bottom and are on really bad form. There last win in the league was September 27th against Carlisle. Since then they have played 7 league games and have only got 1 point from them 7 games. 3 at home and got 0 points and 4 away getting 1 point. Conceding 16 and scoring 7.

There really is not no reason why we couldn’t get a result there, i doubt they will get many fans watching due to it only being torquay. last 3 home games they got 6,8 and 6 thousand.

As I've already said, I don't mind Chesterfield as a first round draw.

Its a no pressure game, so there is no expectation upon us and there will be little to no exposure outside of Chesterfield and Torquay - unless its a goal-fest we'll be lucky to get more than a handful of seconds on the tv review show. If we lose, unless its an absolute hammering nobody will bat an eyelid. At least we won't have the ignomy of getting beaten by the likes of Redbridge, East Thurrock etc.

Chesterfield are not in the greatest of form, thats an understatement. They have the opportunity to improve on their paltry number of home wins this season as they play Yeovil next weekend, but they also have a game in the midweek against Tranmere in the JPT immediately before they meet us. Potentially they could be a little leg-weary when they play us?

There are a lot of familiar names in their squad from last season. I went to the game at the B2Net, and they were an effective outfit but little more than that. Despite players like Danny Whittaker, they didnt seem an exciting side, just effective. Although he didn't play that day, Craig Davies was their danger man and they lost him in the summer. In fact, they lost Craig Davies to be replaced by Leon Clarke and I rate Davies a lot higher, as Clarke now clearly comes with baggage.

It won't be easy and I'm not expecting us to win, as I'm sure Chesterfield will be organised and strong. However we can go there and give them a game, and its not inconceivable that we can draw or win. I'd say that its a fair possibility that with their home form, we could get a draw and get them back to Plainmoor and then its all up for grabs.

good draw for me, i can get a bus to the ground from the bottom of the hill! derby tup before the game is a cracking venue about two mins from the new ground, must say i liked saltergate, proper old ground and a host of pubs to choose from between the ground and the station

they're no great shakes so far this season but i still fancy us the slip out of the cup at the first hurdle this time around. dont think ive seen us win there ever in about 6 visits?
still keeping the faith

I've been browsing on here most of the day and not seen that post you mention Matt. Are you sure you actually posted it? Nothing showing in the Moderator logs of a post being deleted.

Yeah, I posted a post which just had "HOLDING POST" written in it and that was accepted just fine. I then edited that as the draw was made, so it would be the top post and would make sense. Now the whole bloody post is gone.

Not the ideal draw to be fair but not unwinnable. If we can get them back to Plainmoor then it would gererate some income but increase pressure due to an extra game. I think we can win this one as they are no great shakes in league 1. They won't be taking us for granted I'm sure so here's hoping for something like CFC 0 - TUFC 1 in the 94th minute!!! :keepie:

Isn't it odd... I'm fairly confident when I say that many of us would have viewed this as a tougher fixture last season, when they were a stand out L2 side, than now that they are a bad L1 side. Bristol Useless fans would have you believe that L1 is a perfectly acceptable division, where as L2 is a division full of crap. I don't think so boys.

If you look at the 11 that played for the Spireites on saturday, you wouldn't be overawed in fact you would be underwhelmed. They have a limited squad and the one which got them up last year was stronger. Sheridan has a knack of slating the players on a regular basis (as one who buys the Derbyshire Times each week will testify) and often chucks the toys out of the pram undermining his staff. Last year they bullied teams but this year they are being found out and if we combat that side of things then we can get a result. They let in goals for fun much like ourselves. I believe we can win this but my opinion may change if we revert back to negative shite at Crewe on saturday. If we do that then i might not even bother going to the B2NET and i live 10 minutes away. Roll on saturday.
