New Drum
New Drum
I bought a new drum from a small shop in town and brought it along to the Gillingham game for it's debut. When the Wimbledon game comes round hopefully I'll play one and Walshy will play the other.
Just wondering what people think of the atmosphere lately, improved? Do you think it's good us being near the away end? What can we do better?
I am going to buy a snare from my next pay day (In a couple of weeks).

My take on this Joe is, on Saturday i could hardly hear the drum, and could not hear any chants coming from down by the away end, there were no chants even at 2.2 from the half way line and none from the family stand, the atmosphere Saturday was as poor as i have witnessed in a long time.
When you lads are on the half way line the two sections either side join in, and often the family stand hear and join in aswell making for a better all ronud noise, my personal thoughts are stick to the half way line.

I agree forever, it's much better when the singers are in the middle. However I do suggest that the singers should stand near the away fans, when we are playing the likes of Rovers and Argyle. The reason for that is simple, because of the great banter created between the two sets of fans, also even if the singers are by the visiting fans, the attendance will be large enough to create a good enough atmosphere.

Totally agree with that Dave. When the Yellow Army song gets going the Family stand gets going as well.
The reason we go down there is (Like Danny said) to have banter with away fans and I do think that when we go down there we do sing louder and for the whole game nearly, a lot longer than when we are in the middle. I do wonder if there is anything that can be put on the wall of the pop-side, like a special peice of plastic that will help the noise reverberate.

Joe/Danny, yep totaly get it, however you guys might want to think about the effect being down by the away has on the atmosphere as a whole.
As we know the noise carries from the away end better than it does from the popside, yep you guys went down there and had banter with the Gills fans wound them up so they sang louder and as a result actaully played right into there hands, do you not see that.
The reason i say that is, you might have sung louder, however from where i was stood in the middle of the popside we could not hear you, the family stand was quiet, in fact all you could hear was the Gillingham fans singing loud and proud.
I think you should re-consider, it to me has a negative effect on the atmosphere, as the popside is almost silent, you can hear a pin drop in the family stand, in fact all your doing is winding up the away fans who sing louder and as we know the noise carries from the away end, which in turn helps the away fans turn it into a home matrch for there team.
You lads stood down by the away end atmosphere wise = a classic own goal.

We get what your saying Dave. Just we like going down there sometimes more than the middle.

I was sat in the Family Stand today as a hospitality guest and I wanted to comment on an observation today which I know forevertufc can back me up on.
I could hear the lads down the away end of the Pop loud and clear from a position that is probably as far away from them as it's possible to be inside Plainmoor today. Good effort lads. This had me thinking about why those in the middle of the Popside can't hear them from much closer. We could hear all sections of the Popside today perfectly well so why doesn't the sound travel along the Pop at all?

I was with the singers today down the end, decided to stand with them as a few mates asked me too. We pretty much sang all game and it was great effort by everyone! I'm glad the Family Stand heard us today, but for the some reason the noise just doesn't go around the Pop. I think the permanent singers are staying down there now, maybe the Family Stand need to join in with our songs to get the rest of the Pop going!?
