I'm not against us playing it tight at the back Nick just that to forsake all thoughts of attacking just to get a point has been an unmitigated disaster for us away from home so far and on the evidence i have seen if we do this again we will eventually let goals in and we won't be in a position to respond as we will have been nullified as an attacking threat earlier on in the game. If we focus on keeping it tight to get a point we are going to lose IMO. There is no reason we should lose 3-0 either by being adventurous. We may go 2-0 up after half an hour and be in a strong position, its better than being 2-0 down and game plan out the window after half an hour. Yeah sure we may get a refs decision as has happened a few times but i'd much rather we didn't rely on this in order to score goals away from home. OK maybe going gung ho might be a little frivolous but we certainly need to step up markedly on the performances we have put in away so far this season. I don't want to go to Crewe and see the same old bland, clueless, pedestrian showing from us thats all.

I will say now. To go through all the diversions with all the motorway traffic will take a few hours. So plan a few more hours onto your travels. The roads are old back roads which are awful to use on a normal day.
I suggest that although it is a huge diversion, the A30 is probably going to be heavily congested and it would be wiser to go further east and if nec go as far as the A37 and go up to either Bristol or Bath. It may even be worth looking as goin as far as up to A303 and cut up to Swindon through Marlbourgh and then the A417/419 it will be better than sitting in a massive queue and looking at the tarmac. I for one will forget about Football this weekend. It seems to trite to worry about such things with what has happened. the League will still be there next weekend.
I think the game should be called off, and so should may others involving the local sides. Just wont be safe for people to travel to the games using the other roads. Like you said, football should take a back seat considering people have lost there lives.
I love my football but theres times where its got to take a step back. I doubt crewe will call it off as they wont be affected by the accident.
While its terribly sad that people have died, if we're going to cancel swathes of the Football League programme, it needs to be for practical reasons, rather than because a handful of people have died in a tragic accident. It simply isn't practical to rearrange football matches every time something like this, or loss of life on this scale occurs.
I'd like to see the matches go ahead. ECFC and Plymouth at home against Carlisle and Morecambe, surely two of the very longest away trips in England, neither match liable to attract more than a few dozen away fans. TUFC at Crewe, well, the club won't be happy at having to pay to get the team up there and overnight too, not if the match is a Tuesday, which will attract many fewer supporters to visit anyway (especially given the nature of Torquay's fan base, being exiled and likely not affected by the M5 at all).
For my money, the football remains. While what has happened on the road is clearly devastating for anyone even remotely involved (including those geographically close to the epicentre, as our brother Brett), cancelling the affected league matches will almost certainly be an exercise in absolute futility.
This incident does go to demonstrate just how reliant we are upon the M5, down here in the Westcountry.

Absolutely right Ferrari. Of course it is very sad that a number of people have been killed or injured in the M5 crash and of course our thoughts are with them and their families, but the game is in Crewe so a large number of our potential support for such a fixture would not be travelling from the Westcountry in any case. A major trait of the British character is to carry on in adversity and long may that continue. The only reason I could think of for calling the game off would be if our team could not get there, but they travelled yesterday so hopefully this afternoon they will be able to put a smile on the faces of those who have managed to get there.
I had said on the M5 thread about perhaps postponing the game. I was thinking about the team travelling. As Stefano has said that the team travelled yesterday then of course it should go on. I shall be glued to my phone awaiting the results whilst stuck at a kid's birthday party.
