This was really tough, as the whole starting XI were excellent, and bobby, damon and saah also worthy of a "well done" :-D

Again, like Brady says the whole team were unbelievable today so it is really difficult.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I was not at the game so can't vote but the Crewe equivalent of this thread couldn't suggest one of their players and nominated

Danny Stevens and Rene Howe
Phil

The defence performed well today but they were never really tested. I thought about putting either Ellis or Saah as the number 5 but I decided on Nicholson as he made some great runs and his passing was superb.

In response Stoke Gull, i felt today most of our enterprising play and confidence in possession was orchestrated by our defence, manipulating the ball and distributing it as efficiently as possible for the midefield / front. In addition they were solid and dogged and it unfair to say that they didn't have much to do. They made countless blocks and their workrate and positioning were excellent. The reason why i gave Ellis and Nico 1-2 is because they did their defensive duties really well but Ellis looked the part and Nico (and Oastler) constantly tried to play quality balls and get forward at every opportunity.

I see where you're coming from Andy, regarding Oastler I thought he played well today but too often he went into space and the pass was there to be made but he has to be screaming for the ball, make sure that the player with the ball knows he's there, he was too quiet. At times he didn't look like he wanted the ball.

I think the variation in members selections just highlights how difficult it was to pick the best 5 players and really any one of 11 could be in there. Its all down to each members viewpoint and how they saw the game i suppose. I for example did not select Howe although many have put him top or near the top but thats not to say i didn't think he had a bloody good game. I just thought others were slightly better.

I'd agree about the variation in votes aswell. It was an excellent team performance on Saturday and its difficult to just choose five.
