Really looking forward to this game! Have just come off the phone to a friend who is a lifelong Blades fan who reckons they are eminently beatable.

Cheers

ta for starting thread brucie

had same replies from 3 season ticket holders, all reckon we stand a great chance, especially as the loan players have gone back (i think that was what she said?)

thought crowd wouldnt be much bigger than saturday, only 5,000 or so home fans, that truly is a disgrace!! fa cup matches used to be packed out at the lane, altho i guess they're more used to entering at the 3rd round stage!
we really have nothing to fear!

it doesnt bother me which day it is, altho i think more of sheffield my mates would come with me if its a saturday, works do is that night so theyve already got pass outs for the evening and itd be easy to swing an early start plus a good session! got horrid feeling it may be the friday night espn game, or the sunday dinner itv one?

Bixie

New thread at your request, sire :~D

Glad to see we're BOTH getting positive feedback from the locals. I wasn't at that game in 81/2, so this is THE chance to stand at the opposite end as my mate's husband!

COYY!

Cheers

i went to the plainmoor game back then, a mere slip of a lad of 15, cant remember much except hordes of blades being there, i think those were the days when there was little if any segregation and the away fans changed ends at half time? can also remember pompey doing the same but fighting all the way down the pop as they did it!

anyway, espn site giving nothing away for december yet but the excellent live sport on tv site says espn games friday night and 4pm on the sunday (same as this weekend roughly, weds ko was 1515?). did itv show one saturday as well as the halifax charlton game yesterday?

someone on another thread said, tongue in cheek, that he was worried about this game being all ticket for us

whilst i realise he was joking theres NO way that the blades game will be made all ticket, their away end, a two tier affair, has a capacity of 4,300, or at least thats how many wednesday were allocated.

i imagine that we'll get the lower tier, which will be more than ample for the amount of fans we'll be taking, i'd like to imagine a 1000 gulls there, we normally get 250-300 at northern games, if they're played on a saturday and the team are doing well. so if we could double that and add a few more then maybe 7-800??

I was at the home game back in 81-82. We drew 1-1 and there was a packed Babbacombe End of Blades fans. There was a whole host of buses behind the popside to take them back to the railway station. Cant remember any trouble at the game as like "bixie" i was about 15 at the time. The game up there was a 4-1 defeat with us 4 down at half time, Tony "bomber" Brown scoring our goal (no i wasnt there).

As for this time visit if it goes ahead on a saturday I reckon it will be 500+. I know we had 255 at Chesterfield and Sheffield will be a new ground for most but the main problem is its so near xmas and those half thinking about it might have to say no because of the cash outlay. £30 odd quid coach, say £15 to get in and then food and drink for the day it could be too much for some, plus some have kids too and thats a lot of money to find. If we do get well over 500 then thats a terrific effort..

Yes, but if we get the saturday afternoon slot & Aldershot/Maidenhead the sunday game then we could get quite a few of their "weekenders" coming along to support us ,sort of South vs. North (similar to the American Civil War......eh?)

That would be two noisy away ends if it was us and Aldershot. Especially with the drummers etc between the clubs......

Not a prayer Bix. We only took 7-800 to Rotherham on final day of last season when arguably there was more at stake. Yes we are away at a big club like Sheff U but at the end of the day there are about 40 clubs or more bigger so its not a 'dream' tie like a Man U or Liverpool. Plus its the FA Cup which nobody seems to give a shite about anymore. I'd go for about 5 or 6 hundred. I've spoken to a wednesday fan close to the club and he believes that their game will be shifted and not ours although it is only hearsay but he categorically confirms that there is no way on earth both games will be on the same day.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

it's an absolute crud draw for us it has to be said. Miles away, not that much chance of a win if we're totally honest and the Blades fans aren't going to turn out which means our purse is poor anyway. Hey Ho, just have to give it our best shot and we'll see.

its the best draw we couldve possibly had barring wednesday away i reckon, it'll be the biggest crowd of the round except weds again. its not that far, 4.5 hrs from newton abbot on an average day. and the chance to see torquay play at a premiership quality ground, its better than 2,100 at plainmoor v some non league side. we've a great chance of getting a result there too, as they'll surely be more intent on getting back into the championship and will prob field a weakened side!

It has to be one of the biggest draws of the 2nd round for us. I think we have a great chance IF we just turn up mentally. Big stadium nowhere near full but around 8 to 10,000 with maybe 6 or 700 gulls making a racket is better than 2,000 at Plainmoor versus Maidenhead IMO. Nothing to loose here guys!! Not been to Brammal Lane in a few years either.

Ox

My mate in Sheffield says the acoustics are good at Bramall Lane. He says 6-700 Gulls' fans should make a great sound, especially after we go one up! :)

Cheers
