Some interesting moves ....

Post by CP Gull »

... on loan deadline day.

Argyle have re-signed Nick Chadwick who has been plying his trade in the lower leagues with the likes of Chester, Barrow and Stockport - so quite a surprise that he is back in the League at 29 ! They have also added one of our former loanees in Ashley Hemmings who showed some nice touches with us but seemed a little on the lightweight side for L2 tbh. I think Darren Purse will probably do a decent job for them but I wouldn't be too excited about the other two if I were an Argyle fan (which I'm not Trojan! ;-) ) - it just shows how far they have fallen and the "reality" of their situation that they are making these "type" of signings now.

Another one of our "old" boys has signed for Swindon Town - Ronan Murray - I thought he had some real quality about him in his brief spell here. They are also rumoured to be on the verge of signing Paul Benson (ex Daggers) from Charlton after his move to Bradford, which seemed all but a done deal, fell through at the last minute. Whilst these two signings will undoubtedly strengthen Swindon, I have a feeling it could be good news for us in as much as given the number of strikers they now have on their roster I'm really not sure there is much prospect, if any, of Billy Bodin getting anywhere near their first team in the immediate future and so hopefully this will increase our chances of making his move permanent in January.

I also see that Port Vale have signed three players on loan, another one from Ipswich (O'Connor- a young defender) and two guys from Stevenage (Reserves) namely Guy Madjo and Myrie-Williams (ex Bristol City). Not too concerned by this as it strikes me to have been a little bit of a panic move by Micky Adams, who seems to be feeling a bit of pressure up there - not sure if any or all of them will feature tomorrow but if they do it will be like playing with a bunch of "strangers" surely? Not only that but given some of the comments being made by Adams on how "bad" his current squad is, it is hardly likely to boost the confidence of the existing squad either!

Yeah I've been following it through today. Another one of note is James Beattie returning to Sheffield United. If they can get him fit in the short time between now and next Saturday then I fear he could be a handful!

Yeah, that's an interesting one. According to Blades Manager Danny Wilson earlier in the week he reckons Beattie would be match fit in a "couple of weeks" which might just tie in with our FACup game with them. On the downside he could be a real threat if he is anywhere near the standard he once showed, but on the upside the return of a former "hero" to their squad might just put a few on the gate and therefore boost our coffers.

What ARE coffers? Does anyone know? I know its a term we band about all the time and everyone understands it but just wondered what the hell they are/were? It's not a dealbreaker but i would like to know. I could maybe offer someone an imaginative prize for the most innovative answer, like a laquered egg tree perhaps? ( God i hope its not only Royal who gets the last bit!) Seriously though, what ARE coffers? :-/
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Chippy. I now have this great image of TUFC directors going to this box, and getting out cash, to pay the players wages each month. I see our chairman as very "Scrooge" like in appearance. Straggley beard, long dark coat and a Homberg. Priceless.

A coffer is a person with a reputation for continually attempting, by forceful ejaculation of the breath, to remove phlegm or other obstructive material from the trachea or neighbouring areas such as the larynx, usually as a result of smoking or diseases or infections caused by the common cold, influenza or even bacteria such as pneumococcus.

You may be interested to know the precise difference between a coffer and a casket.

A coffer is exactly as I described above, whereas a casket is a device used to provide a seal between two surfaces in an automobile engine.
