Contracts

Post by uberwozza »

Just reading that Nico signed an extended contract (ahead of his 30 yard top corner last minute screamer)

Anyone have a list of who is out of contract at end of season in the rest of the squad?

Like Jamie, off the top of my head:

2012:
Robertson, Ellis, Lathrope, Atieno, LRT, Yeoman, Palmer, Spear

2013:
Olejnik, Rice, Leadbitter, Oastler, Saah, McPhee, Stevens, Macklin, Halpin, Morris, Howe

2014:
O'Kane, Mansell, Nicholson

Pretty sure that Halpin and Macklin have got another year with us and have a feeling that Ricey may have too.

Yep you're right, CP, as usual :)

Although a slight question mark over Halpin. Wiki says, "Halpin signed his second professional contract at Torquay United on 9 July 2010, months after signing his first professional contract, signing a three-year contract extension."

but the Herald said, "But now Buckle has given Halpin, a product of United's link with Paignton College's Soccer Course, a new contract taking him to the summer of 2012."

I do remember three years being mentioned though.

Macklin does have one more year on his contract, Pretty sure so does Halphin does like CP said. Think we got him down to a longish deal after his trial with derby.

Also your right in saying Ricey has a year left as everyone we signed in the summer were on 2 year deals apart from Atieno.

From talking to a few people, Robbo and LRT are both not happy here so which mean they may not sign new deals. I believe LRT wants first team football and Robbo wants to move closer to home. Few people over hear his mrs telling the other wags that hes not happy. But give him a nice pay rise could see him change his mind.

I dont think Atieno will get a new deal. But i do hope we get Ellis, Lathrope, Robbo and maybe Yeoman and Spear new deals at least.

CP's list is correct.

Hopefully Ellis, Lathrope and Robertson are next in for talks.

Interesting. I must admit I have a feeling that we might see Robbo move on either in the summer, or perhaps as early as next month! Both Ellis and Lathrope are U24 and would therefore attract a fee (assuming we offered new terms) even though it might be set by tribunal but that's not the case with Robbo who can leave for nothing in the summer on a Bosman. For that reason I wonder whether we might cash in now i.e. January Transfer window rather than get nothing for him in the summer - I still wonder whether he might end up at BRFC - so let's make them pay something for him at least! I can't see the same happening to Ellis (i.e. a move to BRFC) as I'm not sure he saw "eye to eye" with Buckle when he was here! Hopefully regular football might persuade Ellis to stay. As for Lathrope, I guess there is always a chance he might follow Uncle Paul to BRFC as well - but would he realistically be getting anything like the regular first team football he is here with us there? I don't think so.

As for the rest of the out of contract players, I'm not too sure any will be here past the summer. I don't expect LRT to stay, whether we offer him a new deal or not, and perhaps the same might be said of Atieno - either way you get the impression that they aren't exactly "settled" down here and certainly in the case of LRT it must have been a frustrating couple of years for him with limited exposure to 1st team football.

it includes those aged 23, so under 24.

I think Robbo, Ellis and Lathrope are the upcoming expiries I'd be most keen to get extended, they're all young and first 11, seems a no brainer if they'll sign - if Robbo is keen to move on and we can't afford to convince him to stay I'd suggest there's little point in selling him in January as we're not going to get huge money for him and whatever we get won't be worth the hastle of replacing him.

I don't know how the development of the youngsters is going, whether it's worth giving them another year to try and break into the first team, but there's only so long we can wait for potential to be fulfilled.

Barring a miraculous turnaround in form, reports suggest Atieno isn't doing enough to earn a new deal, and with Nicho comitting for another 2 years LRT seems unlikely to get into the first team anytime soon, so if first team football is what he wants he ought to move on. While both are handy backup players, I'm not certain we couldn't promote from the youth team or pick someone up on a free in the summer to fill their place in the squad equally as well.

As for the rest, surely it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and tie Bobby and Rene (and on current form dare I say Danny Stevens?) to longer deals come the summer, as I'd suggest they're the most likely to be subject to interest from other clubs.

I can't describe how glad I was to find out Atieno is only on a one-year.

Downside of that is, we still have him for 6 months.

I refuse to give up on Taiwo, he was awesome against Bristol Rovers. 80 minutes of closing down, great ball control and hold up play, and a great finish. That moment in the second half where he skinned 2, went round the goalie only to have the composure to go around another before having his shot blocked on the line was class. Then Kee came on for 10 minutes and was absolute tripe. Funny ol' game.
