Don't think I've ever seen the board so divided. Personally, I've watched it a few times and don't think it's malicious and a blatant red card, but for the damage he did it was probably worth one. To me it looks as if he thinks he's going to get to the ball so starts to stick a foot out, then realises the defender's going to put it out for a throw so half pulls out, and ends up with a foot in completely the wrong place. Shame he used his most explosive bit of pace I've ever seen from him to get there.

What happened to the 'old pros trick' to get himself a break over christmas?

This takes the p*** a bit:

That would have been a frivilous appeal, given that their guy swung a punch at Ellis right in front of the referee. Gutted my arse, he definitely wanted christmas off. If their appeal had been successful, I would have encouraged us to do that same it was that clear cut a decision.

Oh, and having seen the footage and particularly that photo, I concede that Rene deserved to go. It certainly didn't look like that first time round, but then Rene's legs were concealed by Winnard's body and couldn't see where he aimed for.

Just for the record on 'Spotlight' last night Chris Hargreaves said that he thought a red card was "a bit harsh". Also how did Greavsie manage to look so good in his bright red christmas jumper resplendent with snowmen and christmas tree ? Anyone else would have looked silly

Given the perspective from the camera, and the fact that you can't tell which way the foot was moving, that photograph doesn't really prove anything.

There's no need to "prove" anything. He got a red, deservedly, won't be appealing and will serve his ban.
