Last ten years comparison of TUFC and BRFC
Last ten years comparison of TUFC and BRFC
Supposed to be revising, so I thought my time would be better spend comparing the positions of Torquay and Bristol Rovers in the time that i have been a football fan, from the age of 11 upwards.
I was confused in the fact that some people get saying BRFC should be at least a league 1 club if not championship club, i didnt think that wass correct and believed them to be a league1/league 2 hovering team.
Therefore, i did some research for the last ten years of which league they were in and whether they finished above us.
In the previous ten full seasons BRFC have been in league 2 or equivalent, for 6 seasons and therefore, league 1 for 4. They finished above Torquay in 6 of these ten seasons.
However, If the league stays as it is currently that will be 7 out of 11 years for BRFC in league 2 and 5 out of the 11 Torquay will have finished above BRFC.
I dont really know about Brizzles past, but the immediate past shows them as more of a league 2 club.
Discuss.

There fans are delusional (they think they are a League 1/Championship club) but the reality is their current reality!SDYellow wrote:Supposed to be revising, so I thought my time would be better spend comparing the positions of Torquay and Bristol Rovers in the time that i have been a football fan, from the age of 11 upwards.

The level of delusion is shown by the fact they are now talking about getting into the playoffs!

Actually in fact they are not being delusional. Don't count your chickens before etc.
Go back to the 2007 season and they were in a similar position to where they are now. they were 11 points off the playoffs. This week they are 12 points from the playoffs. They were having a so so season and looked to be going nowhere. They only seemed to be having a good JPT.
City were the opponants for the area final and they beat them 1-0 in front of a full house. I was there that night with wifey and the atmosphere was electric. There hasn't been one like it since. not even Wembley.
Granted the Wembley trip was good but That night at the Mem was a bit special.
Having dumped the Sheeds out of the Millenium final, they had a huge turnout for Cardiff and lost to Donny (hence the calls for S O'D as manager).
The disapointment at losing spurred them on to go on an amazing run culminating in reaching the playoffs and getting to Wembley. That created the pub quiz question Rovers fans like. (who got to both stadiums in the same season for two cup finals. Chelsea and Rovers) They won at Wembley agains't Shrewsbury in front of a huge Rovers turnout again. and were promoted. I cannot take that achievment away from them. It's not much different now.
A New manager who is quite a coup for them and could easily galvanise them on to go up the table. Mark McGhee has the credentials to take them even now to the playoffs and who knows they could make it.
We must not take them for granted when they come here. They are a different proposition to last August. We have to beat them to keep our own momentum up and it's still pride at stake as well.

Young man. Judging by your spelling I suggest that revision should be your priority or you will come to regret it all later on in life. Learn from one who wishes some sujects were taken a little more seriously.SDYellow wrote:Supposed to be revising, so I thought my time would be better spend comparing the positions of Torquay and Bristol Rovers in the time that i have been a football fan, from the age of 11 upwards.

One the other hand an interesting piece of research. Simply done and consise.
Looking back over the last few years since the Olly Ollyway days. I tend to agree with you. I have been to many matches with both clubs over the years and even held a season ticket to both at the same time. football every week and sometimes 3 times a week. (2004).
But looking back over the last 50 odd years (and boy were some of them odd). Rovers have traditionaly been a rock solid league one team. with occasional forays into the Championship or Division 2 as it used to be known.
They didn't usualy set divi 2 alight but during a couple of season did very well.
You need to go back to the 1950's and 60's to see Rovers doing well in Div 2 when Atyeo Played for City and Geoff Bradford playing for Rovers with Both getting full caps for the full England team . Crowds in that era reached 30 to 40,000 for Rovers during those years and they nearly reached the 1st division (now Premier League) being just pipped to the post by Leeds Utd who were then an ordinary division 2 side
Taking all results into account and the fact that they have now served a few years in league 2 I place them as a solid league one team and no better. Rovers fans won't want to hear that and probably aspire higher ambitions but that is fact based on historical position.

To be fair though, not many regret not doing better in most sujects

Cheers Gloucester, I know my English is bad, but word spellchecker is easy to check!
, just glad my maths is a little better. The reason why I'm taking a technical report.
Thanks for the report, it was what I wanted to know, I guess its the difference of opinions of two generations, judging teams on how they are in the influential years of my life, im used to them being a highish league 2 and a mediocre league 1 team.

We are a massive club, always have been, always will be, which is why we are capable of attracting young, ambitious managers like....... errr, um. Never mind, forget I said that.

It's a little known fact, that online Argyle fans are what the 'ignore' button was created for :~Dstevegull wrote:![]()

I hope I don't smell like an egg. Phew
By the way why is there not a spell checker on this site? Or is it hidden somewhere I've not noticed.

I am becoming increasingly nervous that Rovers will be able to get it together for an end of season push and may well find themselves in the playoffs come the end of the season. Their form since Mcghee has taken over has been outstanding and their squad is impressive for this level even though they had a disastrous start under the little twerp.
We could meet them in the playoffs, what a match that would be!
