Stand corrected. I actually saw the footage of the attack and just presumed he would have been found guilty. I can't for the life of me understand how he could have got away with that.

I agree with the decision actually. In most organisations if a serious allegation is made against you then you would be suspended on full pay until the outcome of an investigation. Football does its own thing, as the players are too valuable to be treated like anyone else would, but the England captaincy is a ceremonial position with lot of media/ambassador responsibilities.
For the CPS to take it to court there must be decent evidence there, as the CPS never take anything to court that they don't think they can win. With the trial to start in July, this would be hanging over him and the squad. By acting early they've removed the speculation and got the hysteria out the way now rather than during the tournament. He'll still stand a chance of going of the tournament, based on footballing merit, but having the captaincy suspended is fair enough, based on the allegations against him. Imagine if we won (I know we won't), and then two weeks later the man holding the trophy in all the photos we'll trot out for the next 40 years is found guilty.

Hahahaha, couldn't be more right. There's a reason my firm have a 90 odd % win rate. The CPS are retards, staffed by retards who couldn't get jobs on my side of the fence because they aren't good enough at what they do.Aussie wrote:

And anything to do with political correctness, as often as not they don't bother with evidence; a mere accusation is often sufficient for the police to make a charge and for the CPS to bring it to court.

He is innocent until the court finds him guilty, and it's not at all fair for the FA to suspend him and to undermine Fabio Capello's authority. While there may be exceptional cases where an employee should be suspended after being charged, this sort of action is far too common these days, and could result in an accused person getting a less than fair trial. There are also times when the police and the prosecuting authorities are interested only in evidence which supports their belief in somebody's guilt, and withhold from the defence evidence which indicates the contrary.Gulliball wrote:I agree with the decision actually. It is innocent until proven guilty, that is why the policy is suspension on full pay until the outcome. If somebody working with children was accused of a child offence, he would be suspended until the outcome, if a police officer was accused of corruption, they would be suspended until the outcome. John Terry is the England captain, a position which has a lot of media/ambassador responsibilities, and the case is serious enough to be going to court, however many of you may doubt the CPS, this isn't going to go away over the next 6 months.
He hasn't been banned from playing, it's just the captaincy that's been taken away, and I think that difference makes it a reasonable decision. If the FA had done nothing then it would have been a distraction during the tournament. At least by acting now they've got the main reaction out the way. Capello obviously isn't happy, but it was a tough decision to make and whatever they did (or didn't do) would always leave someone unhappy.

I would compare it to deciding a teacher wore a blue shirt to school on the day of the alleged offence against the child & allowing them to continue teaching children but while they're being investigated are banned from wearing a blue shirt to school.
Terry is still doing the same job & being allowed to mix with the same black opponents on football pitches every week...just as the accused teacher would be if he was NOT suspended.
Had the F.A Premier League explained to Spurs that Joe Jordan, Kevin Bond or Clive Allen should take over the role of Manager & deal with transfers in & out of the Club until Redknapps reputation regarding such financial matters had been upheld in the face of allegations to the contrary then I could understand what they were trying to get at.
As it is we end up with an Italian (Capello) reminding us of the principal of innocence until guilt has been established & the danger of pre-judging people. An incredible reversal in roles as 30 years ago, maybe even 20 it would have been the British explaining the idea of fair play & justice to the foreigners.
How times change.
And as for the claim that it was a 'tough decision' I really can't see cravenly capitulating to the politicians showed any backbone at all. The F.A will do as they are told, they'll even hang Capello out to dry in their haste to follow instructions. Their willingness to follow orders couldn't have been any more clearly demonstrated than the speed with which they acted to please their masters before they even picked up the phone to tell Capello that he no longer had a Captain.
If you're looking for decency, honesty or a willingness to make tough decisions I'd suggest the last place to look for it would be Soho Square. Whether it's the number of black players included in an 'England Greats' video or the unseemly haste to wrench the armband off the England Captain the bigwigs at the F.A will always stop shagging their secretaries long enough to ask 'how high' when their politically correct masters tell them to jump.
While many of us can understand that leaving someone in their job in situations such as the one descibed above would continue to give them the opportunity to potentually continue committing the offences they are accused of, there are those who can't quite see why removing an armband from a player would stop him from committing further offence. Indeed was he not wearing the Captains armband for Chelsea when the alleged naughty words were uttered ?If somebody working with children was accused of a child offence, he would be suspended until the outcome,
