Capello resigns
....following the John Terry suspension as team captain, Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager.
Man of honour. Man of principle. ??

Just seen this , I have untill now stayed clear of this subject as I have mixed feelings over the whole John Terry affair, I have no time for rascism , however I also feel no one should judged until they have had there day in court.
Sorry the F.A have been sucked into falling over backwards to be seen to do the right thing, the right thing in this case would be to have left well alone and let the courts decide, John Terry has been found gulity of nothing so far, fully behind Capello our F.A have proved time and time again they are worse than useless, well done F.A completely screwed up again t#####s.

Absolutely agree. Can't somebody send these egotistical idiots at the FA back to whatever hole they crawled out of?

I wish I could understand the FA's real reasons. There are a few possibilities:
- They believe that Terry would no longer have the support of his team-mates, which is possible. I have no problem with this as a justification.
- They believe that Terry could not do the captain's job properly with all the pressure of the impending trial hanging over him. Again, I have no problem with this as a justification if it is true.
- They feel there is a better captain out there. There might be, I can see that. I don't particularly like Terry, as I don't like a number of the arrogant Premiership superstars. There is a lot to be said in going for youth, and perhaps we should risk building a team of youngsters (and a young captain) over the next three months.
- I suspect the more likely reason (and I guess this is why Capello has resigned) is that the FA have caved in to massive pressure from external parties such as the Equality & Human Rights Commission. I have a serious problem with this justification, as it flies in the face of natural justice as Terry hasn't even been tried yet. I may be making myself unpopular here, but I am entitled to my viewpoint.
If the fourth reason is the correct one, then it would appear that allegations of "hate crimes" are being accepted as fact before they have been proven. We don't do this with any other allegations of crime. This is a very dangerous precedent.

In things like this, the FA are in a tough position. From the point of view of Joe Blow in the street, the FA are either with Terry, or against him. If they don't relieve him of his duties, they're with him. On the viewing of the video evidence, it looks highly likely that he will be convicted. Even if he gets off, the majority of people knocking about will still be convinced that he's guilty anyway. By taking no action, the FA appear (and will be reported by the press) to be supporting what Terry has done.
They are left with no option but to take the captaincy away and give it to someone else.
Is it a coincidence that FC resigns on the same day Redknapp is acquitted?
Matt.

I dont think this is a case of the F.A being for or against John Terry, more like concerned how the are viewed publicly , from political point of view, and how there sponsors may react, the F.A cant be seen to support rasicm I understand that, however this is where I have slight problem with this. as it stands John Terry has not been convicted of a race crime, untill he is the F.A had no need to get involved.
I understand being England captain carries great resposibilty, not sure what the right word here is, but what stupid reaction from the F.A you have been charged with a race crime, so we will take the captains armband of you, but hang on the team might need you for Euro 12 , so ok you can still play, either suspend him or dont suspend him.

I don't see the problem of stripping him of the captaincy, even before he's been to court. He is effectively the figurehead of English football (on the pitch at least) and is not a good role model for fans and fellow professionals. For that reason, fine. I do however, think that is Capello's choice, not the FA.
