Benyon in the herald express
Shouldn't be on here I'm supposed to be dishing up dinner but wanted to see if any news regarding young Benners.
I suppose the lack of it is a good sign.
Off topic but good news about Hemmings.

Really hoping this isnt one of those after-deadline confirmed deals now!

I'd like to think we'll have made plenty of contract offers to Benners in the last 12 months, but it's understandable he wants to keep his options open. A new 2-year deal for him now would obviously add a few pounds to his valuation - good for the club, not necessarily for the player. Any young player with ambition has to do what's best for him - importantly he's not allowing it to affect his performances. As he's said himself, he's in no hurry to go - but by the same token if the right offer was put to him, he'd be foolish to ignore it. Hopefully he'll be here until the summer, and have scored a shed-load of goals in the meantime. At that point he can choose between the offers that will naturally be on the table, and we'll still get a decent fee. Who knows, if we go up, one of those contract offers might be from us - and he might just be inclined to stick around...

Was 5pm today. But you always see deals being officially confirmed until after the deadline.yellowsmiffy wrote: Would be a kick in the teeth! What time was the deadline!?
But as you say, losing him now would be a massive blow.
Just seen a message from Steve Breed on facebook, claiming to have spoken to benyon and that Benners told him that at 4:45pm today he signed for Walsall for 66 thousand pounds. If true i can't help but think Walsall is a step in the wrong direction for Elliot aslooks as if they are doomed this season. Extra incentive to beat them on saturday though i spose.
Seriously?!
Surely staying with us would be a better option than going up a division only to find himself back down again come May (possibly)?
*missed the facebook bit but it was doubtful, so glad we're hanging on to him a bit longer.

Somebody on a wind up I would think.
I seriously doubt that Walsall would have that sort of money and not exactly the sort of move that would necessarily appeal to young Elliot either. I would suggest the fact that we are actually playing Walsall on Saturday has more to do with this "rumour" linking him with them.
