UFO sighting
Just thought i'd share this story about what i saw today and see if any of you out there had ever seen anything similar. Firstly let me state that i don't particularly believe in aliens nor am i really interested in them but what i saw today has left me baffled. I'll just begin by saying that about 10 years ago in roughly the same place i had my only other baffling UFO spotting moment whilst driving down the M1 near Woodall Services in Derbyshire/South Yorkshire. On that day, like today it was exactly the same weather conditions, bright and sunny with no clouds and i saw a perfectly spherical metallic ball in the sky above the motorway. This sphere seemed to have a shadow on it cast by the sun and it spent a minute or so just vanishing then re-appearing two or three times, then it eventually veered off to the side rapidly and just vanished completely.
Today i saw a brilliant white light about twice the size of a large star in the clear blue skies and it vanished then re-appeared three or four times, a bit like if you turn a torch on and off. It pulsated. Then it vanished for a fifth time and i lost it for about 30 seconds before i found it again completely at the far right of my peripheral vision miles and miles from where it had been 30 seconds ago. There were planes in the sky and it took them 7 or 8 minutes to pass my vision field but this thing just vanished and re-appeared somewhere completely different and there is no way on this earth anything can move that fast. It then vanished again and re-appeared back central again before doing the same and re-appearing as a brilliant white light far to my right again. It vanished totally after about 6 minutes.
I can,'t explain this and i am convinced that this thing that i saw today was something special. Nothing can traverse the skyline about 20 times faster than a passenger aircraft and then back again whilst being invisible.
Bloody weird.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Very strange that one.
I once had a sighting in my back garden, at night. There was a white light in the sky, as bright as the brightest star which was moving across the sky at the speed of a passenger aircraft. I watched it for a while until it changed direction back on itself, heading where it had come from. It then changed again but in more of a curve into a circle and starting moving above me, where there was just a small blue flash and streak of white light and it was gone.
Never been able to explain that one!

Over the last week and especially the weekend just gone the Aurora Borealis were highly visible. Not saying it was that that you saw but could of been.austrianandygull wrote:Just thought i'd share this story about what i saw today and see if any of you out there had ever seen anything similar. I was convinced for about two months that Paignton was being visited by aliens or strange craft because whenever I went to Preston Beach to walk my dog...there were a series of 8 or 9 lights in the sky that seemed to spin for about 5 minutes and then disappear. I kept quiet at the time because I wasn't sure if anybody else had seen them - I was quite happy that I'd not told anybody because after a few weeks I decided to go to Paignton beach and realised that the weird lights were coming from that stupid thing at the end of the pier.
This is really true.

“We may be only one of millions of advanced civilizations. Unfortunately, space being spacious, the average distance between any two of these civilizations is reckoned to be at least two hundred light-years, which is a great deal more than merely saying it makes it sound. It means for a start that even if these beings know we are here and are somehow able to see us in their telescopes, they're watching light that left Earth two hundred years ago. So, they're not seeing you and me. They're watching the French Revolution and Thomas Jefferson and people in silk stockings and powdered wigs--people who don't know what an atom is, or a gene, and who make their electricity by rubbing a rod of amber with a piece of fur and think that's quite a trick. Any message we receive from them is likely to begin "Dear Sire," and congratulate us on the handsomness of our horses and our mastery of whale oil. Two hundred light-years is a distance so far beyond us as to be, well, just beyond us.â€
― Bill Bryson, A Short History of Nearly Everything
So, we see that while it is entirely possible that beings with minds immeasurably superior to ours, spend, we can reasonably presume, a great many years building a craft capable of carrying them at the speed of light, for a period of not less than 200 years, then, having done this, they appear in our sky for about 8 seconds, only then to turn around and bugger off home again.
I'm guessing that this is probably not the case...

This is based on our own knowledge of science though Matt, and we have already discovered that it is possible to travel faster than the speed of light. There is no reason why a bunch of aliens, 20,000 years (perhaps even millions, if they are the equivalent of our Dinosaurs, minus one very large asteroid) ahead of us in technological advancement cannot reasonably travel to our planet to study us. Now consider the advancements we have made in the last 100 years.
Until they show themselves to us and very nicely show us all their technology, we will probably never know, certainly not in our life time at least.

Who's to say we are not the ones who are inferior. Why assume that we are so advanced and the aliens are not. I am alien by the way. It says so on my greencard. I even have an alien number.

The best estimated says the universe is 13.75 billion years old, whereas the beginnings of our galaxy the milkyway is roughly the same age as the universe and has a diameter of 100'000 light years from edge to edge, with a thickness of 1000 years, however our solar system is only 4.6 billion years old. With this information it can be believed, if your willing to accept, that there will be numerous stellar systems with life far more advanced than ours.
However, travelling large distance at speeds close to or at the speed of light affects the fabric of matter. General relativity, Einsteins creation and our best understanding currently says that as matter gets close to the speeds of light it will weigh more and more. If we take this to be true and the fact that the closest intelligence to us could be as close as 200 light years (more likely to be further away than closer) it seems highly unlikely that intelligible life will travel close to speeds of light, this means that the time will be longer.
As for travelling faster than the speed of light the experiment between Switzerland and Italy have said they MAY have found a few anomalies which could explain their finding. Our understanding of physics albeit quite theoretical fits most phenomena in the universe and getting even single protons (constituents of atoms) to close to the speed of light in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland requires 800 Gigawatts of energy.
A space craft will have to be self supportive for several generations and probably have to create its own energy, making any possible space craft quite large, similar to that from the movie Sunshine. However, this would have to get reasonably deep into our solar system if it were to deploy smaller craft. Humans best effort took 7 years to reach Saturn. So for a small craft like those depicted in UFO sighting would be impracticable.
I do not believe that these phenomena are those of aliens, however they still are UFOs (unidentified flying objects) and I find it quite interesting to hear to about and see these sightings but I believe they can be explained. Although Andy's experiences sound very odd.
