is this a case of another manager not being able to handle the pressure when things go bad ?? or has he taken it as far as he could ?? apparently, he has only ever signed 1-year deals anyway, so doesn't sound like he was ever in it for the long haul

I remember hearing that he was going to step down at the end of the season last summer. I think it's always been on the cards. He's a fantastic manager, but you really have to be an incredible manager to get a team to the top and keep them there for years. There aren't many out there who can do that without moving clubs at some point. Fergie is one of very few.

I don't think it's a case of leaving when the going gets tough, personally. Whenever I've seen him on the tele in games he has looked tired, he's never very energetic on the touchline. A brilliant manager, who I expect will return to a job in England, perhaps Arsenal, when he comes back from his break. I hope his assistant (who is replacing him) keeps his legacy going.
