I can remember at Eastville where 10,000 was looked upon as a bad crowd and local matches ie Plymouth saw crowds of 20,000. I have in fact found that in 1966-67 season we played yourselves at Eastville and won 1-0 with a crowd of 10,902 but amazingly and please correct me if this is an error but we lost at Torquay 2-1 in the return match with an Easter crowd of 14,171!!. In the following season when we were doing slightly better we beat you 1-0 at home with 19,470 and again lost away 2-0 and your crowd was 11,401. Oh what memories!! I can even remember playing Arsenal ast Eastville witha crowd of 35,420. In fac t going back to 1953-54 (which is before my time!!) and 19,00 was the lowest home gate all season with the highest gate being over 35,000.
What is your highest home attendance? What was your highest capacity? Just out of interest and not trying to get bragging rights.
Flippin Eckythump Freindlygas. We must be a pair of Old Codgers.Almost as Old as Trojan. After all he goes back to the days when they carried red flags in front of the few cars around.
Saw quite a few Rovers games in the 70's but didn't go before that as I only really saw Torquay from Grandads window at no. 77 Warboro Road in the 60's
You must come out to Yate and have a chat sometime at the Model Shop
Listening to the Crewe v Southend game at the moment, sounds like it could be a very good game. Crewe have the better of it so far, Southend sounding a bit ragged at the back.
a crewe victory would seem to be on the cards, and would be what most of us would have wanted as far as opponents at wembley, if we beat our first choice of semi final opponents tomor and thursday
i must admit that so far everything i wanted to happen in the various playoffs has happened, york thru to wembley, west ham v blackpool for place in prem, mk dons soundly beaten and the blades in with a good shout of messing it up completely!!
as you can probably guess. i didnt bet on any of those outcomes!
Southend coming back into the game but still could go either way. Crewe seem to just get hacked out any time the ball is in the middle of the park, referee doing nothing. No surprise there then.
