Bit odd to call it off at midday on Friday and I look at the BBC forecast last night and it suggests 8 degress at 3pm on Saturday in the South West???

I'm not so sure - a mate of mine posted a picture on facebook yesterday morning of the thermometer reading in his car. It said minus 7, and this was at 8am. If it was colder Thursday night and didn't get above freezing at all/until late in the afternoon Friday, the pitch would have been rock solid.I guess they had to make a call to prevent Burton travelling needlessly, and here we are.

If you look again Numpte it now says 5 and misty for 3pm. Its also supposed to be raining all morning but it isnt at the moment. There was also ice on my patio at 7:30 this morning so it went below freezing last night.

Well, 5 is well above freezing and if Exeters game is still on, its a cr*p decision taking into account a) the forecast and b) the time at which they took it.

It's fair enough it was called off. Nearly every match in the lower leagues has been called off, and it's better to do it early, than on the day. Nothing worse than it being called off on the day half way through the journey etc. It takes a while for a pitch to thaw out, and considering it was freezing last night, it might not be fully thawed out yet. Saying that, I think it's all too cautious these days - It's not that dangerous playing on a semi-frozen pitch, but there are regultions and we have to respect that.

If a player suffered a career ending injury as a direct result of frozen conditions, this could be open to all sorts of claims in this blame obsessed culture.Then there's the loss of said player(s) to the long term strategy of the team/club ambitions.

It's a swings and roundabouts issue this one. As disappointed as we are with the decision, I don't see things changing. Look on the bright side, some of us today have done our Christmas shopping and kept out of the pub as well. Mrs 'erindoors is a very happy bunny indeed.

With the above said, games weren't called off like this in the 60's and 70's and back in the day saw a few games at Plainmoor with snow on the pitch and using an orange ball. And yes, it was F in FREEZING.

There is no f in gloves ? Too true, not in my day. You ran around like you were supposed to for the team or until you were carried off f in frozen solid with exposure.

Cold feet have never been my problem, cold hands were/are. White Rock(Paignton), Easterfield Lane(Torquay),Morten f in hampstead in Winter. Gee suss fer cry sakes, my mitts would sting for ages in the after match shower.

i think they made the right decision calling it off when they did. I am disappointed like other fans but its better than a wasted journey - anyone else remember travelling to Bristol Rovers on a Boxing Day only to be told it was off when we had arrived? Now that was irritating - can anyone remember the Ref?
