It seems odd that there is a groundswell of opinion that Tesco with their greed have overstepped the mark and Customers are deserting their store in droves. yet the customer seemingly also concered about the way money is printed like confeti in this make believe world still sign up for Sky.

Jesus **** ing wept, three BILLION pounds, for one season of showing football matches. Just goes to show the gulf in scale. What do we get for being on telly (not that we ever are, they'd rather show Cheaty smashing 60 yard no hopers over the top), is it £30,000? At that rate, they could show every one of our matches, home and away, for the next 2174 years.

All that will do is stoke the financial bubble even more, up the mad wages to average Premiership players and set the scene for the most almighty crash in the quite near future. It is utter madness, the product just ain't worth that much. Eventually sanity will return, the TV money will fall dramatically and Premiership clubs will be left with unsustainable financial structures and a one way ticket to liquidation. The impact on the game is terrible, the empty seats at the majority of televised games, awful. I just hope that the Leveson Report will recommend transporation back to Botany Bay for Murdoch and all his minions.

It is just an insanely amount of money, but this is the total sum for the next 3 years right? At least that is what is claimed in the Norwegian newspapers.

Sorry Guys. Should have put in the details of the deal.
It's over two years starting next year. it covers 154 matches, with 116 going to BskyB and 38 to BT. which will be slightly more than 40% of games.
The previous deal has been exceeded by £1.25 Billion by my reckoning that means the last deal was for some £1.93 Billion.
One odd statement made by Scudemore was this. "We are very happy to see this relationship maintained for the another 3 seasons". Now is it for 2 or 3 seasons?
so it's actually £1.53 Billion per season. for 77 matches. nearly £200.000 per match. As I said before. Madness. utter madness.

It's a 3 year deal. So a shade over £1b a year. It's a lot but they're clearly making the money of it somewhere.

Let's face it, the Premiership is what made Sky (or BSkyB as was).

Just because Britain is on it's uppers, it doesn't mean that the whole of the rest of the world is. Glostergull calculates that the last deal was for about £1.93 billion, assuming that's about right then a sufficiently huge profit was made on that for certain parties to be willing to cough up considerably more money this time.

EU countries may well have maxed out their credit cards & be struggling to pay for anyones products, but the wordwide TV rights enable Premier League football to be sold to plenty of willing customers in parts of the world where there's no shortage of disposable income. It's a product that's in high demand, therefore they can ask a high price for it & find customers willing to pay that price.

As mentioned before on various forums, if entry to Plainmoor was completely free would our attendances really increase very substantially ?
