Burton v Leicester reserves
Leicester put out their first team against us and beat us 4-0. With 10 minutes to go, its 4-1 Burton in R2. This didn't make any sense to me, so I had a quick look and it turns out that just three of the starting XI at Plainmoor have started tonight.
Gets on my tits a bit, if I'm honest.

At least they had more respect for us Matt. They probably thought they could put out a team of stiffs at home v Burton and have no problems. Big mistake. It does get on my tits as well to be honest and it's not just the JP Trophy that is the only cup competition in danger of dying. The League Cup is just about dead and the FA Cup will go the same way in a few years. I'm losing interest. We should just concentrate on the league and bugger the cups.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
Nah. They played us as one final warm up for the season. They haven't had the best of starts, and for a team expected to gain promotion, I'm sure Pearson will favour picking up points at the weekend to progressing to Round 3 of a cup they probably won't get near winning.

I think that clubs should be given the option of choosing to compete or not compete in the league cup. If they choose to compete they must have a rule that states they must play their strongest side or at least 8 of the team that has played the previous league games must play. Otherwise they aren't allowed to enter. That way the clubs who have entered will take it seriously and the ones who don't take it seriously won't be in it as they will have opted out anyway. Failing that , the first five rounds of the competition should be a quid to get in so fans aren't being duped and ripped off.

I dont completely disagree Andy, however I do believe its a good place to give youngsters a chance. I think maybe your idea should stand, but unique to the competition. Ie Leicester had to have 8 players against Burton that played against us. Its totally unfair that Burton could now draw Man United by beating Leicester, yet we dont have that opportunity because we have essentially lost to a different team.
This way, using Leicester as an example, if they decided to play a weakened side gainst us, and beat us, thet then have to continue with thst side. The Man Uniteds etc would then have to decide if they want to win it or not. If they don't, they play the Kids, beat the lower league sides, and lose when they come up against stronger teams.
This would see more teams having the chance of winning, getting into Europe, getting more money, and making them more competitive.

Or make it finish in May with all the other competitions, and just stick all teams in at the start with a certain number (haven't worked it out) getting byes through to the second round. That way all the lower league sides have a chance of drawing one of the big boys and thus receiving more income from matches. By making it finish in May, it can start later, therefore Europe won't be as much of a problem, or if the clubs see it as one, they can play a lesser side so that other teams have a better chance of beating them and garnering even more income and popularity.
Some of that made sense in my head, at least.

Or, scrap the cup completely, save us all the hassle and just have the Premier League write each FL club a cheque for £100,000. The PL won't miss it and nor will they miss having to play extra, meaningless, games. We still get a few quid out of it. Everybody wins.

Wealth is relative so this wouldn't really benefit us at all. If all the clubs get given the same amount of money then we are in exactly the same position compared to our rivals as we would be without the money.
