Apparently I should have been him yesterday Happy if some members were to be believed! Glad to see that yellowmonkey has now taken over my mantle.
I happen to think yellowmonkey has a valid point but as far as i'm concerned we played more positive, we got the win and it gives us some confidence so it would be foolish of me to be critical. I'm not one of these fans who believes we are the best thing since sliced bread just because we've only lost once and just beaten Wimbledon 1-0. Yes, as i have said before we have made a solid start to the season but there are areas for improvement which i'm sure Martin is aware of. If we are to have ambition they we as fans also need to have ambition too and are not just happy to accept that we are clear of relegation. If a performance Torquay gave is out of context with a fans individual view then that fan has a right to an opinion, especially if they are forking out good money to see it. For example, Vale away was a game we had injuries and suspensions in and were playing a team on fire. The tactics we employed at Vale Park were appropriate in my opinion in order to maximise our situation so that we may get something out of the game. At Fleetwood i was extrmely disappointed as i felt we could have come out of the blocks and hit them hard first day. That didn't happen and we were defending all the time, i felt that approach to that game was the wrong one. The Rotherham approach was absoultely the correct one just that we didn't bother to counter attack which led us to defend for 90 minutes. I don't have to agree with what Martin does every game but he will get my support. Some of you just want to be arse lickers and claim the holier than thou attitude to being a fan and have a go at anyone who moans as not a true supporter. No, we've just got opinions rather than being sheep. Opinions which i always put out there as my own hand on heart and as fair as i see it. Don't be too hard on yellowmonkey just because he isn't jumping from the rooftops because we got a lucky goal to beat wimbledon 1-0. That stat happened so he is correct.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Apologies for calling people sheep, obviously their opinions although different to mine are also valid and must also be respected so please forgive me that insensitive use of terminology. Thanks.

Brown sacked
Pretty fed up with reading some of the "only won via a freak goal" nonsense from people who weren't there.
Going forward we were superb last night, and aside from the mistake for the goal their keeper has had one of the games of his life. I can't recall the last time we drew 5 top drawer saves from the opposition keeper. There is work to be done for sure, but last night was a pleasing display and shows we have a good platform to work on.
I've seen the "highlights" from Saturday and although I understand Rotherham battered us, they only won 1-0 via a freak goal. Take the freak goals away and we'd have got 2 points from the last 2 games. As it is we've got 3 - I'm comfortable with where we are at the moment

Fair points Jeff.

Shame. When you compare the demeanour of Terry Brown to the likes of Evans, di Canio and other gobsh**e managers at this level, it's obvious he is one of a few of a dying breed. A true football man and a gentleman, it's a shame its not really worked out for in the FL.usagullmichigan wrote:Brown sacked
Without a doubt he'll find another Ryman league club and take them to the top of the Non-league pyramid, but it seems that's as far as he can go.

I really don't want to take away from the point Jeff is making, because it is ABSOLUTELY correct. However, the last time we drew 5 top drawer saves from a keeper was the bloody Playoff semi second leg last year. Bastard!Jeff wrote:Pretty fed up with reading some of the "only won via a freak goal" nonsense from people who weren't there.

Matt.

Good post. I don't think it's a coincidence that we have a player back from injury who can do the holding role (Easton), and instantly the performance improves. IMO that role and the role the RH does up top are the 2 most important in our structure.Jeff wrote:Pretty fed up with reading some of the "only won via a freak goal" nonsense from people who weren't there.

Delighted to win, delighted with a clean sheet. Roll on Saturday.

So it appears that opinion is split between the facts and the hopes - the realists and the optimists...No more 'ugly wins' please, 3 or even 2 goal difference victory against Burton should do the trick and raise the morale. A 1 goal win or less won't change things...Come on..sort it out, otherwise you can have my mum on loan...Sorted !!
I would take a 1 - 0 win now - without question!coley wrote:So it appears that opinion is split between the facts and the hopes - the realists and the optimists...No more 'ugly wins' please, 3 or even 2 goal difference victory against Burton should do the trick and raise the morale. Obviously in an ideal world we'll beat every team in our path convincingly, racking up 20 attempts on goal, finishing with 85% possession. Unfortunately we are Torquay United, not Barcelona.coley wrote:So it appears that opinion is split between the facts and the hopes - the realists and the optimists...No more 'ugly wins' please, 3 or even 2 goal difference victory against Burton should do the trick and raise the morale. At the end of the day a scrappy 1-0 win is worth just as much as a 2-0 or a 3-0. Obviously it's better if theres more goals in a game but at the end of the day last year was unbelievably fun to watch unfold purely because we somehow seemed to rack up 3 points after 3 points.

I agree to a certain extent Nick but we are not playing against the same opposition as Barcelona. 3 points last night however is a relief but doesn't provide any confidence going forward !
Yes, but we're at this level for a reason. There aren't any easy games, so to scrape a 1-0 win away from home - I'm happy.
Yeah, good job Rene is so big and fat that the keeper managed to hit his arse with the clearance.jonnyfive wrote:
