FA Cup 1st Round Draw

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

Anyone know when this is?

Looking at the fixtures for the fourth qualifying round draw i would ideally like to get Buxton Town, Ilkeston Town, Osset Albion, Mansfield Town, Alfreton Town, Harrogate Town or Lincoln City AWAY!
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Ties are being played on the 20th of October so I guess it'd be after the matches on that day.

Sorry Andy, but progression (and the inherent financial benefits) are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more important than your bloody travel lethargy. Anyone at home please, until the third round when, as usual, it's Man United away.

Actually, this raises an interesting question (might not actually be interesting). Which team do you think would be best for us to draw in terms of revenue?
I know we all say Man Utd (or whatever), but would enough of their fans really care enough to bother turning up? Would we be better off getting Fulham, and filling Craven Cottage, than getting Man Utd, and having half a dozen bored Mancs turn up because the rest don't give a shit? What is the tipping point, do we think, the point at which X v TUFC is a big enough draw to get the crowds in, but a big enough club that the supporters who turn up will be most numerous?

Matt.

Yep. Someone crap non-leaguers at home in the first two rounds then a trip to the Etihad/Emirates (I would say OT but the POF was rubbish and I didn't really like the stadium so.. (obviously wouldn't moan if we got it though)).

Good question, nicely phrased. The reason I think OT would be the best scenario is because there probably would be enough Mancunians who would just jump at the chance to see Manchester United play (even with a weakened side). Apparently the waiting list for season tickets at some of these big clubs is HUGE so I think some people would just be pleased to get a chance to get inside the ground.

Plus, the ground would fill up because everyone 'up North' would want to see the beast that is Rene Howe.
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...

Matt, its been shown that United still get 65,000+ for games like one against us. They have a massive fanbase where matches like these are their only chance to see a game. Considering no other team in England can even hit 65,000 fans, it has to be United.

I've been to OT a few times including our POF defeat but i wasn't greatly impressed. I'd take Newcastle United away. I went once for a league cup tie against Hull and the place is feckin amazing, probably the finest in the land and the passionate Geordies and banter is unbelievable. Newcastle away for me 3rd round ( Buxton Town away 1st! )

We rarely get an exciting game these days. We'll probably get Carlisle away in the first round.

The draw for the next round usually takes place on the Sunday of the previous round.
The 4th qualifying round is this Saturday and Sunday, so expect the draw to be this weekend at some point
