This time last season...

Post by Plymouth Gull »

..We'd just spanked Wimbledon 4-0 at Plainmoor, starting that ridiculous run of form. Heres hoping it happens again!

It seems to take the first 10-15 games in a season for us to sort things out, to get the team gelling together, before moving on to a period of consistency and good form. I'm confident that the same is happening this season, and that come the new year we'll be in a position to make a serious promotion challenge once more.

Can I also add that we are much higher up the league than this time last year too!

Its weird how people are saying we are not playing as well this season but still find ourself out of the playoffs on goal difference. Like the post above says above were a lot higher than last season at this time. Cant complain, lets just hope we hit some form like last year and finish top haha

That’s a very good comparison Nick, however no guarantee that this season will naturally follow suit, I have been vocal on here about our form and stand by every word, I feel the mentality of some performances has not been right and feel some players have been missing whether that’s lack of confidence or something else who knows.

That said last night was probably the most complete performance of the season and if that's the sign of things to come then we will all be happy, apart from one schoolboy error at the back, from the defence right through the team everything worked and for the first time it looked liked we had 11 players on the park all wanting to be there and do their bit for the shirt.

As said on my loan players thread our season still remains on a knife edge, last night was clear proof our team is good enough to challenge at the top end of the league, but the team has to start believing in themselves and follow up Saturday with another good performance, so far we have a number of good performances follow up with a damp squib.

The last 10 days has seen me watch my first 3 games of the season (due to working away), and they have been 3 very different performances, as I'm sure you will all agree. However we have taken 6 points and nearly salvaged a point at Rovers with only 10 men. We are certainly not firing on all cylinders, however, you can tell that this squad that Ling has put together has what it takes to beat anyone in this league, which is very promising. I am sure we will be in the mix come the end of the season, and you know what they say, the mark of a good side is one that can ground out results when they are not performing too well, and we certainly did that yesterday. I think you will find that unlike this point last season, the opposition are more than aware that we are a real threat and with the unbeaten record at home in the league, no-one is going to relish the long trip down to the Riviera!!

Can't wait until my next few games, which will be the festive period as I am back to work now, I am sure no team will want to visit Plainmoor a couple of days before Xmas and by then I am hoping the away form will be more consistent, in which case no struggling big club will want us visiting them on Boxing Day!!

Each game I've seen has been different, some very scrappy but we've scrapped a result at times, and then there are some glimmers of very nice football which I've thoroughly enjoyed watching and has given me a buzz to keep trying to get to the matches! Not sure when the next will be though probably not until the Xmas run.
