Having read the Martin Allen interview I don't have any issue with what he said. He didn't complain about the referee, about Downes not getting red or the "physical" nature of the game. He quite rightly praised the way his team started and showed understandable frustration that both our goals had a significant element of luck in them.
If it had been the other way round I think some of the contributors to this thread may have shown a lot less balance!

I have only browsed Mad Dog's comments briefly, but he does seem awfully upset about a little [mis]fortune. He reckons NC's free kick travelled 40 yards. For a start, if it travelled half that distance, it was a long way, and secondly given the appalling flap their keeper made at the ball, he'd do better to play down the fact that it was a cross and start crediting NC with a decent effort.
Yeah, ok, Nico's took a deflection and Craig's was probably a shot, but maths suggests that their goal was a 70,000-to-1 shot anyway (pitch of 100 yards x 70 yards is 7000 square yards, the ball occupies 1/10th of a square yard, so there are a total of 70,000 possible wholly unique positions which a ball con occupy and it fell to the one of those which allowed their bloke to spank it straight in). We've conceded plenty of ropey goals in our time, and I'm sure the Gills have scored a few.
Still, the result is the result and I'm glad of the little slice of lucky pie we got to enjoy, despite the best efforts of the lino on the Pop side!
Matt.

football is all about getting the ball in the net, so however anyone looks at it we won 2-1 live with it.
