Football Manager 2013

Post by stevegull »

I know it's still a while away but us virtual managers usually like looking forward to the next game as early as possible!

The game is set to be released on 2nd November although i've heard rumours that if you go through a certain website you can get it 2 weeks early. So if anyone has any info on that it would be much appreciated!

Just checking out their website and it sounds as if they have tried to make improvements where possible. Apparently there are 300 more animations for players on the 3D match engine and the way the ball moves has been inproved also, apparently.

Also they talk about an overhaul in how you organise your backroom staff, with more roles available like 'head of youth development' and 'director of football'.

Transfer deadline day will also be a more engaging experience as well apparently, where you will be bombarded with constant media speculation and rival clubs will be more willing to pay over the odds to get a player if it is late in the window. Apparently they do also give you the option to 'opt out' of the deadline day and have it run as any normal day on the game.

They've also added some new game modes for people to enjoy. I think i'm right in saying one of these such modes is where FM is stripped down to the bare bones and you don't have to worry with training or match preparation etc.

I think the game will once again only be able to run through steam; but this year there does appear to be method to this madness. Basically it seems as though they are trying to make playing online games with your friends a better and more accessible experience. I tried to do an online game with friends in the last one and it was pretty poor to be honest, it took ages to load and you had to download a new thing to be involved in the game. In this one though, it sounds like steam will host the games (as they do with thousands on other 'shoot 'em up' games) so the game should run smoothly and make it just like a normal FM save, just with your friends also playing it!

What do you lot want to see on the game?

Who are you going to start the game with?

How did you enjoy the last game?

DISCUSS.

I only got as far as the demo for the last edition, so cannot really comment, but I thoroughly enjoyed 2011. When I eventually get it, as always, I will start with someone like Man United or City. As I often skip the odd seasons, I am behind a little on the design of the game so I tend to choose a big team as I find they are easier to get used to the game and work out tactics. A decent tactic with the big teams will see you get to where you should be, a poor tactic will see you drop down a few places, therefore, much easier to work out whether it works compared to League 2 where FM seems to draw the winners out of a hat.

As for what I'd like to see in the new game. Online games are definitely needing a facelift. I have tried on many versions of FM and CM only to find it is poor every time. Also, a bit more effort on the stadia would be good, making them more like the real ground. It doesn't have to be exact, just the general size of the stand and whether it's seating or terrace.

Other than that, I'm not fussed.
Luke.

Not 100% sure if I'll get this on release day (means I most certainly will).. but it does sound really good.

Getting it soon, played every football manager since 07 (and championship managers before that [til about 01-02]) and still I try to get Torquay to win the champions league without a takeover or going into financial ruin

Started mine up today but tbh I'm struggling. I started with QPR and got spanked about in my pre-season tour of America. I think I might start up a new one with Torquay to get used to it.

Not doing great so far. Won my first game but I haven't won another league game since. Out of ten league games thus far I've only lost twice though but have drawn seven games, and have now drawn my last four league games 0-0 (including against Exeter and Plymouth) and haven't scored in six. The stupid thing is, in those six games I'm averaging 21 shots per game and haven't had less than 16, my players just can't finish (which perhaps shows that it's quite realistic so far). Out of ten league games I've scored five, conceded seven and am currently 20th.

I chose QPR due to my love of a misfiring French striker (which is also why I oddly liked Morike Sako and Carl Priso Yaya). However i have since ditched that save and started one up with Torquay. I'm suffering the same fate as 'tufcfan' really as I am getting lots of shots away but mainly drawing or losing games.

I did manage to sign Cristiano Zanetti though! Look him up!

I haven't actually been TUFC yet. :O

Due to having such a fun game as Porto on FM12, me and my brother have decided to do a network game, he Porto, myself Benfica. First to Champions League glory wins. Should be very interesting, and fun at the same time.
