Just a quick question about Pickles.

Post by ferrarilover »

Hi all,

Is Pickles banned for a game for picking up his 5th booking today?

Matt.

Dave/Louis, this thread can be scrapped once I have an answer.

Nope

That rule expired on the 31st December I believe. He'll only get a ban under the "totting-up" rule if he gets a season total of 10 yellows between now and the end of March I think

He waited until the deadline had passed.

Now that is a professional at work...!

December 31 is the date in the year that more than any other signifies an end. When it comes to English football's disciplinary system it represents a finish too. It is the last date on which a player with five yellow cards to his name will have to serve a suspension this season.
From 1 January onwards, a player will need 10 yellow cards before he is handed a suspension (five yellows will lead to a warning as to his future conduct rather than a ban).

Whereas the suspension for five yellows before 31 December is one game in length, suspension for 10 yellows is two matches although that only applies until the second Sunday in April.

After that date he will need 15 yellows for a suspension with the length of the ban then extended to three games. Ten yellows after the second Sunday in April now brings about a conduct warning only.
These regulations changed for last season. Previously a player had to survive until the last day in February rather than the last day in December without five yellows to avoid a ban. Also the old seven-day wait from the last booking for a suspension to start has gone as well. They now begin immediately.

As the answer has been provided I will lock this - but leave it up for others to see.

So now that question has been answered, I have one of my own.

Just how good was he today? Totally awesome and committed performance in my opinion. He just gets better and better, set a perfect example to young Mark Ellis today.

Not just setting an example Dave but making sure the defence was set up right on each phase of play. After all, would you ignore Branners if he told you to stick with someone?

I was one of the first to ask did we miss his presence against Oxford. The answer arrived with Guy's performance against Carlisle.

His so called poor disciplinary record has not been present while he has been with us. Long may it continue.

I do feel that sometimes his reputation goes before him and that dick on Saturday couldn't get his card out quick enough for Guy's first minor foul.
