The fifth in four years!

If a club like Torquay can survive and remain solvent, why cannot other clubs with bigger budgets and larger population bases? We know the answer of course, and there are worse examples than Southend, such as Portsmouth or on the other hand Swindon, of the way clubs should not be run.

I feel sorry for the supporters of such clubs, but should they be allowed to survive? Or to let them fold, and to start again from the bottom? Incidentally, would Torquay United have gone under if Mike Bateson had not been bought out by the current board?

What is needed is constant vigilance, by supporters of all clubs, of the way their clubs are run, backed up by appropriate legislation which acknowledges that clubs are not just businesses, they are communities. What think you?

Judging by most 'fans' phoning in to the radio all they want is for their clubs to spend more and more money.

I think that is the case at Prem and Championship level Phil but i think many fans of lower league clubs are aware of the financial restrictions at their respective clubs and how overspending would be dangerous.
