Glandular Fever
I reckon i've got this. Have any of you had it and what were the symptoms?
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
Right Doctor Dave here to help, sadly for you Andy, I am only a doctor in babbling bollox..
If you are concerned there are many symptom checker sites on the net. Ring NHS direct, or get all brave and go to your doctor.

Going to the docs this morning, man this is one of the worst things i've ever had and i've been holed up indoors since Friday hence loads more posts on the forum as there isn't anything i can do other than watch telly and go on the internet.
Is this what Ling has got too?

Does anyone know if you can get tonsillitis again more or less straight after having tonsillitis within a 3 week period?

just googled it. and according to a few different descriptions, yes ,you can get tonsilitus on a regular basis. i wasnt going to paste this article but you might want to read it. -
:-oFor those of you unacquainted with Tonsillitis you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a “ sore throat thing that kids getâ€, but those unlucky enough to be in the know could tell you that Tonsillitis can be the most unbearable experience; like gargling with shards of glass – and that’s just the throat.
The tonsils (those weird, flappy, pink things at the back of your mouth) are particularly susceptible to infection, or Tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is a common, contagious infection that, along with flu, counts as one of the biggest banes in the lives of employers up and down the country, with whole work forces often struck down for days at a time desperately trying to shift the bug.
Symptoms of tonsillitis include, amongst other things, a sore throat and swollen tonsils, white pus filled spots on the tonsils, swollen neck glands, fever, coughing, headaches, tiredness and earache. Plenty of rest and fluids are important and painkillers should ease some of the symptoms. Further than that you’ll just have to ‘sit it out’ for a few days until the infection starts to clear up of its own accord. If you’re particularly unfortunate you may go on to develop ‘quinsy’ – a pus filled abscess on the tonsils that may need draining.
If someone suffers from tonsillitis severely or on a regular basis further treatment, in the form of a tonsillectomy, should be looked into. A tonsillectomy is a common and relatively minor surgical procedure to remove the tonsils banishing tonsillitis for good. The tonsils can be removed with a few incisions from a knife though lazer surgery, ultrasound and freezing are also becoming popular methods.

genuinely sorry to hear about that andy. i could tell how much you were looking forward to tomorrows game. if its any consolation i am missing it also because i have to work.
have you been to a doctor about the tonsillitus recurring. from what i have read it would probably worth doing so.
2 of the removal methods dont seem too bad.

Thanks chunky. Apparently they don't remove them anymore unless you have a serious recurring problem. This is the first time i've ever had it but it just won't shift. Doc says to see it out basically until it goes.
Thanks for your kind words though mate

Sorry to hear you've got this Andy-I had a bad bout when I was younger, with awful feverish sweats, headaches and generally feeling quite depressed. Had about 10 weeks off work in total and there wasn't much they could give me-just kept going back for blood tests to monitor how the blood cells were responding.
My GP actually prescribed some fresh air and a pint of Guiness now and then to build up some iron in my blood!
People experience in different ways though and I know of others who got over it pretty quickly.
Hope you will be feeling better soon and will be back on the road to watch the Gulls before too long.

I might try that !

Thanks for the kind words mate, i managed to get to Rochdale and Accrington away 'in between' bouts although i was pretty ropey at Accy ( isn't everyone :~D ) but you're right, it's sh*tty. I'll definately be at Northampton though which means i have a few weeks to show a bit more improvement.
Cheers BHTG!!
