Never go to the bogs / food kiosk during a game

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

Following on from Scotty's thread about the clown from Cov, i thought it would be funny to hear your stories ( should you be brave enough to admit them and be open to ridicule! :na: ) about any times you may have missed goals or key parts of a game because you nipped off to the kazi during the game or thought you'd get a head start on the rest by queing up for your half time refreshments early or indeed if you left the ground early.

I have got to admit it hasn't happened to me much in recent years, only twice but i had a couple of corkers years ago in a set of circumstances that could only befit my calamitous and luckless persona! :-o

The recent ones first. I missed Burton Albions scorching winner at the Pirelli last month as i had to dash to the lavatory to relieve some rather distressing stomach issues and i also missed Danny Stevens 2nd goal at Sheffield United in the cup last year i think it was as i left when their 3rd went in as i was MAJORLY PEED OFF and just had to get out of there, it was like experiencing a whole new area of psychological phenomena - a footballing panic attack. ;P

In 1997 i think it was when i was a regular on the terraces at Boothferry Park, Hull i had a couple of shockers, one involving Torquay as it happened and both 3-3 draws. The first was against Oxford United and i missed all 3 of Hulls goals. The first one was scored in the 1st minute and i was making my way into the ground as i'd got there late, the second goal was scored in the first minute of the second half as i was still languishing at the rear of a formidable queue of rotund Humbersiders at the refreshments kiosk and the third was scored in injury time and i'd left on 90. Unbef*ckingleivable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

A few weeks later Hull played Torquay and if memory serves me right Hull were 3-0 up with about 5 minutes to go so i left early. I got in my car, put on BBC Radio Five Live and made my way home on the lonely stretch of the M62 westbound and eventually the classifieds came on and it said Hull City 3 Torquay United 3! I nearly smashed the car into some innocuous looking sheep! I had missed all 3 Torquay goals which were all scored after the 86th minute if memory serves me right.

  I was half expecting Jeremy bloody Beadle to pop his head out of my glove compartment!

So, please tell me your stories ladies and gentlemen.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Got a couple, one personal and one for our kid.
Went to watch Sheffield Wednesday play Man City in the 80s , good game, we lost 0-1 on my card. Except I had to go for a 'jimmy' three times during the match, and missed a goal EACH time and th score was actually 2-2!

And our kid when he first started watching the Gulls had dragged me all over the north to watch them (the season they finished bottom, '95/'96 if memory serves me) and they NEVER scored. Then finally, at Feethams in December with just 32 brave souls in the away end they took an early lead. Our kid was so excited at seeing his first ever Torquay goal he went to the toilets and promptly missed their second goal in what was a VERY rare win that season.
They were the only goals we witnessed (well at least I did) all season! :-/
