Well I hope I am wrong but I think we are down for certain. I think we were unlucky not to get a result at Northampton and said as much on the forum. I take it that Southampton Gull did not witness the Bradford game - if he did he might be saying something different.
Yes of course there are four games left and a couple of wins will do it so of course we still have a chance.
But where are those wins coming from - Gillingham? realistically thats a defeat. Bristol Rovers on the last day of the season is the nightmare scenario that we don't want. I really think that if we are left needing points in that one we are stuffed. Bayed on by a huge away following and a ref who will probably want to get himself on the tele I can see only a defeat.
So thats left us with realistically two wins from two games ie Barnet and Morecambe. Ok I accept that is do able.
However with Labadie gone, our keeper coughing so much he has torn a muscle and the likelyhood of Howe being absent I just cannot see it happening.
In fact I would still rest Howe on Saturday. Its a massive call but he will get booked if he plays - I would near enough guarantee it.
Give him a weeks rest and play him against Barnet - he could get through that game and we would have him for the Morecambe game. Love him or hate him we have hardly got anything else.

I'm just so glad you have an affinity with the area Brucie. Your opinion is now valid even though it's the same as mine and a few other users of this site who also have no affinity with the area nor think we'll stay up.

="oxgull"* We were long gone by this stage so there is always hope. It's painful, it hurts but Joss Labadie is gone. Thanks for the goals and lifting our spirits but it is down to someone else in the dressing room to be a big hero now so who will it be? COYYS Either we are going down, or they are!!! austrianandygull wrote: Dave, my prediction of relegation is not one i glory in. I'm a fan just like anyone else despite your probably inadvertant attempt to belitte that and i want us to do well and play good football. Why would i spend money i haven't got and put my mum to some serious put outs by dumping my little one on her so i can go and see us play? Do i do that because i want to see us relegated? I do take on board what you are saying about the fans on here that have seen it all and done it all before with regards Torquay and i respect that i will never have that affinity and connection with the area and that is something i cannot change but my support and my money are as valuable to the club as anyone elses.

I can't change the past nor can i predict the future but what i can do is comment on what i see and that is all i'm doing on here, so effectively what you are saying is that my opinion is not as valid as someone who has lived in Torquay and been going for 20, 30, 40 odd years. So i am to lie and say that this season has been great when it hasn't, i am to lie when i have strong feelings that we are going to get relegated? Others have strong feelings that we are going to stay up and perhaps they have seen such last ditch survival campaigns in their illustrious years as a Torquay fan when i haven't. It doesn't mean that they are right when they say we are staying up and nobody criticises them for saying that.

My posts of late reflect my thought that i think we'll go down. So what? You yourself have always advocated this forum as a place where opinions whatever they may be are all valid and now we're getting into the situation where i'm being sanitised again and 'encouraged' to say the things people want to hear.

I too am personally rooting for us to stay up and without wanting to sound like i'm bleating, i was f*cking ill on a chilling good friday evening but did the near 200 mile round trip to Northampton. Just so i could see us lose and come and gloat about it on here afterwards? My after match posts seem to suggest otherwise.
Andy, you've inadvertently missed the point that I clearly made by saying that it makes you no less a fan. The other point I made quite clear is that you have less experience of this situation than a lot of us have as lifelong supporters. What you use to emphasise your commitment is neither here nor there, we all make sacrifices to get to games as and when we can.

My argument is based on facts, not emotional outbursts. We have a better chance of staying up than three other clubs - FACT. If you want to give in and accept relegation as inevitable that's up to you but don't expect everyone else to be so resigned to it. I was at Barnet some years ago when it looked a certainty that we'd go down. You know what happened there. Torquay United never do things the easy way, the agony it brings is what makes supporting them such a special commitment, we must all be mad.

Now all that said, I hope you see I was attacking your stance not your devotion to the team or you personally. If I wanted to do that I'd do it to your face, not on here. We differ on a lot of things, I blame certain board members for our position, you blame Ling, you like cats and I hate the bloody things. The point being that diversity is what makes a forum like this work so well. It only gets derailed when people take things out of context to suit their own agenda, I just argue my point and try (not always successfully) to do it clearly tongue in cheek. As I mentioned, you and Nick are both very valued members and the sooner you both stop taking differences of opinion to heart the better.

Is that clear enough you soft northern terwatt? :)

Terry, I will be saying the same thing until its proven otherwise. People saying we need to win this game or that game are wrong. We could in actual fact lose every game and still stay up. What we do in fact need to do is match the results of two out of three other teams and we'll be safe. That's a FACT.

And don't try playing the gallant attendee card, you're onto a loser as its well known that you're the most fickle person on this forum with your numerous posts stating how you can't be bothered to attend matches after throwing your toys out of the pram. As far as you're concerned three quarters of our squad are useless, even Cruise is useless according to your 'expert' analysis. The simple truth is you're simply a fair weather fan who only commits to the cause when things are looking good. I'd far rather go by the opinions of people like Bengull, Alexgull and Ferrarilover who follow the club loyally through thick and thin. When I see you at Barnet or Dagenham on a freezing cold night in January I might have respect for your opinions, until then you're just a joker.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Yes you are correct when you say we are in a better position than York and Aldershot as we are above them and we need only match their results to stay up and i so hope we do. I know Scotty was pulling my leg when he said i would gloat if we went down. I won't gloat, i'm like Roy Walker on Catchphrase - Say What You See - and whilst everyone was drooling over Ling when we were in the play offs last year i was still picking holes and saying the standard of football was crap and that was when we were successful. Obviously i was pleased we were winning games but i still saw problems. Hey maybe that's just me but we were winning but being dull every week and i wasn't happy about it. I will say what i see if it's negative whether we are doing well or not. That's all i'm doing with my opinion on relegation. I don't wish to upset anyone with my views.

Also you say that i have 'supported' a few teams and that now because i support Torquay it feels that you are inferring that i'm not as worthy as a true supporter than some of you who have followed the Gulls for many years. You may not have meant that i know but it felt like a dig. In actual fact i haven't totally 'supported' any one team throughout my life other than Torquay. I went to go and WATCH Hull City and York City when i played for those teams but it was never a serious passion like it is with Torquay, more a social interest and i feel you got your facts incorrect with that. I haven't supported anyone seriously and passionately other than Torquay United, FC Salzburg and the Austrian National Team. They are the 3 teams i care about regardless. I have soft spots for other teams as we all dom you might like Southampton, some members on here follow 2 different clubs in the English leagues so i do feel that comment was unwarranted but it doesn't matter now. :)

Finally i don't blame Ling totally, from what i've learned and read about the board these past few months then i feel they have had a massive part to play in what has happened this season and my views have changed slightly. It's probably best to say that it's a combination of the players, management and board. I also like dogs too! I've worked with them for a great number of years but cats are still No.1. :na:

Andy, I tried to make it clear that I wasn't inferring you we're less of a fan. What I was getting at was you're relatively new (compared to a lot of others) to supporting Torquay and therefore less accustomed to how life is for us. It's more downs than ups but those ups mean so much more because of their rarity. None of that was a dig, just an explanation that's all. You wear your heart on your sleeve and I've got a lot of time for people like that, others who can remain nameless just revel in being contrary to get a reaction. I give my opinions and couldn't really give a toss if people agree with me or not, guess I'm thick skinned enough not to worry about it.

Anyhow, all that aside, lets try and get back to posting about team affairs and not sniping like schoolkids ;-)

PS I don't support anyone but Torquay but have a seething hatred of all things Pompey. That comes from playing football against the skate barstewards and ejecting them from various establishments around Hampshire :)

Amidst all the wailing and gnashing of teeth I see that Aldershot have lost Aaron Morris for the rest of the season, a player that a lot of their fans rated as their only decent performer this year!

Maybe relegation isn't a certainty after all. ;-)
