Was this result really that bad considering the week we had?

Best team lost today, absolute robbery. I'm not interested in any alternative view. With Downes in the side, they don't get within 50 yards of our goal. Not one of their players would get in our starting XI. They had 20 minutes in the second half, aside from that it was all us. Referee fell for it every time one of their threw themselves to the floor and they took advantage. Entertaining game, but totally unjust result. A vastly greater mugging than Newport, and that was almost crime-of-the-Century.
Absolutely distraught.

Poor second half, Wycombe came out with a much better tempo and we were unable to raise our game - it was like we gave the best we had in the first half and couldn't raise it anymore.
Massively disappointed with the goals, as they were both free headers from the smallest man on the pitch. But both had elements of quality about them - the equaliser was from a cracking cross, and the winner was a great header however you look at it.
For the most part the second half was even, we had some good pressure and Pearce had one cleared off the line but we never tested their keeper at all. Still no cutting edge up front.
Poor decisions from Knill regarding the subs - the game was still there to be won when he went risk averse and took Benyon off for McCourt. We then had even less of an option upfront and invited for pressure on ourselves, which led to the goal and we didn't have the personnel to go attacking again. Craig came on and got himself 3 touches of the ball - fair enough he only had 10mins but didn't look to provide anything extra. And Cameron came on - probably the worst winger I've ever seen.
Azeez was impressive but tired as the game went on, whilst on the opposite side Chappel was a consistent threat. Hawley worked hard but I think only had one effort on goal the whole game, which was one more than Benyon. Ricey had to make two excellent saves, and none of the remaining starters had a poor game, just a general lack of quality.
After all the doom and gloom this week I really wanted a positive performance, and there were some positives. But there were a hell of a lot of negatives too - no presence up front, no final ball, concentration at the back being the main ones.
Lucky for me I'm home next weekend for my first home game for over a year, and I'll be interested to see how that goes. If we can sustain our performance level for 70+ minutes I'd expect us to win it, and that well go some way to stopping the rot. Anything less than that, and anything less than a win, then I'm afraid the excuses have to stop - we are a poor side and we are struggling.

Back at the car for the drive home. There are definitely positives to be taken from today, and there is ability and potential in this side. Wycombe won't win this league, but look a reasonable side at this level, and we by and large matched them. Will post in more detail later.

With all the players missing we probably did a lot better than could reasonably have been expected. But to have a 2nd half lead and throw it away with sloppy (or nonexistent) marking is depressing. We're not in a position to be throwing away wins.
now I can't work out if this is serious or not.ferrarilover wrote:Best team lost today, absolute robbery. I'm not interested in any alternative view. Very disappointing that we haven't got at least a point out of that game, although the marking at the back for their 2nd and 3rd goals were just shocking. After all the good work we did in the first half, we threw the game away.
Will have to see their first as I'm not sure whether there was a bit of shirt pulling on Pearce, but my honest view, it was six of one and half a dozen of the other.
We will play much worse and win, but there needs to be a serious look at out defence, especially at set pieces.
