Played another blinder yesterday albeit on the wing for much of the time.

It may be that our best formation will be Kee and Zebs up front with Robinson on the left wing and O'Kane on the right.

They also provide flexibility to go 433 with Robinson stepping up, 4411 with Zebs dropping to right wing and O'Kane playing in the hole or 451 with O'Kane dropping into midfield.

It appears we now have the players to implement not only a Plan B, but also C and D.

The starting line up, formation and tactics used against Barnet should be revealing and I will listen with Interest to the commentary on Radio Devon.

It will be interesting to see how Robbo fares away from home for Torquay.

He often looked a completely different player for us away from home compared to how he was in home games. At home he could look a world beater, but away from home he was often anonymous and ineffective, when you would think with his pace the opposite would apply.

Matt, I forgot to thank you for your initial contribution to this forum in response to something I posted. Thanks for doing that. :-D

On another note, can you leave please, immediately! we already have our allocation of 'Matts' on this forum, we haven't any room for another :~D

Matt.

Matt (the Crab :P ) - I noticed you put the referee on your pick for MoM. Sorry matey, Torquay players only, not Stockport ones. Anyone witnessing that tackle he made just outside their box could hardly deny it.

Hahahahahahahahaha, like! :~D

It was more that I couldn't think of another genuinely deserving TUFC player. I thought the ref was good on Saturday. You are right though, it was a genuinely class challenge, took the ball, knocked down the man, genius.

Strange how we see the game differently. On the plus side for the ref, no yellow cards. On the minus side, at least 6 or 7 times, Zebs had his arm or shirt tugged going down the wing. Not one free kick awarded.

As for deserving Gulls, I dont think anyone could have the finger pointed at them today and said not to have put their shift in. Robbo looked assured alongside Branners as did Manse and Nico (admittedly not exactly put under much pressure). The midfield and attack looked well sorted and hopefully we will play Zebs in the middle with Billy and Robbo playing off him on Saturday. The only drawback I can think of would be against a 5 man midfield but that can then be adjusted in game. It does leave the bench deviod of attacking options but thats life in this league/financial times....

if you're still around, MattSTFC, do Shrewsbury play in a different formation away? What do you think is Robinson's best position? We seem to be very lucky to have him. Oh and one more question: do you think you'll bring a lot down next month when we play you? Should be a cracking game!

Absolutely do not disagree (not sure why I felt the need for the double negative) with you on your two salient points Fletch. With stuff like Zedders getting pulled, while I didn't notice more than a couple of incidents, I have come to accept, ignore and disregard minor things like this. We get away with it as much as we suffer it. It's very similar to the argy bargy in the penalty area from corners, or guys taking throw-ins 10 yards further forward than where the ball went out. Stuff like that is swings and roundabouts and, provided the officials get the big decisions right and are consistent in their award of free kicks for minor infringements, then I'm happy. What really galls me is stuff like we used to get with Elliott. He would spend a whole game getting pulled and pushed and kicked and get absolutely nothing, then he'd make one innocuous shoulder to shoulder (usually with some 18 foot, 30 stone hulk of a man who would go down like he'd been hit by a medieval cannon ball) and get pulled up for it. It's inconsistency which gripes football fans at all levels, just that "big 4" supporters seem to whinge loudest about it.

Also, I am in total concurrence (*scurries off to check correct usage, BINGO*) with your assertion that any one of our players could have filled that last place on the list, but my MOTM nominations were made for players who stood out from the good XI and were not 'merely' good. Essentially, I awarded nominations for the excellent, standout performers and, for me, while the whole team was good, there were only the four genuine standout performances worthy of special mention above and beyond that of a team which generally performed well. So, to save a false nomination, I spoiled my final vote in an amusing and thought provoking way.

Matt.

In the main Graham Turner has stuck to his favoured 4-4-2 home and away this season. Robbo usually played up front with Harrold home and away in the early months of the season, but he rarely seemed to be the same player away from home for whatever reason really struggling to make his mark on games or be much of an influence. I think his best position is as one of a pair of strikers probably playing off a target man, but he naturally tends to drift wide anyway.

If we're still going well when we come down I would have thought plenty will make the trip as many like to make a weekend of it. I'm not sure whether Robbo will be allowed to play against us though, I don't think that has been clarified. When we loaned Holden out to Rotherham earlier in the season he wasn't allowed to play against us, I would be surprised if the same didn't apply with Robbo.

I'd have hoped we would have requested it as part of the Wroe deal ;-)

Thanks for that, Matt. Interesting that the eligibility issue hasn't gone away - obviously hope Robinson will be able to play against his old club and would totally understand if that's not allowed. In time he should form a good partnership with Billy Kee for us and hopefully the away form will pick up.

Good luck with the rest of your season - except when you play us, of course, and hope you make it down here.

Thanks. Robbo is a good player and i'll be sad to see him leave if he doesn't come back at the end of this loan, but he's out of contract in the summer so I have a feeling he might not be.

I hope you can get yourselves back up there and have an exciting end to your season.

I have an uncle who's a shrewsbury season ticket holder and and he's said that Robinson will be great for a few months and then fizzle out. But we only have him for a short length of time, so this could be a good thing for us.
