Torquay United v Rochdale - 25/8/12
I thought straight red was for 3 games too but not sure if thats for violent conduct or something??
On a mini hol with the other half and junior and i'm so glad i left them shopping in town and got myself along here today!! Was tempted to try out the new stand but opted for the pop and glad i did, thought the atmosphere was fairly good, werent too many prolonged periods of time without chanting!! Must say that the bench does look good though, dont think pics of it i've seen do it justice really!!
Pretty pleased with what i saw, we kept and moved the ball nicely for long periods of time but sending off was a proper game changer and were on the back foot after that. Cant argue with it though, deffo straight red!!
As everyone else has said, was really impressed with Thompson today!! There full back had a torrid time keeping hold of him and bet he was proper relieved when he went off!! Thought Morris was actually alright until the last 15 mins or so, got to give him credit though, he's a work horse and never stops running!!
Was also very impressed with Poke, Lings had a touch getting him back to replace Bobby and up until his red, Downes played exceptionally as well!! He's looks easily as good as if not better than Ellis, and commanded the back four well.

I disagree with wasting a loan for one match. Which players will want to come for one match? Not a decent one surely
That line has made it all worthwhile for me.dannyrvtufc4life wrote:FFS!!! I wrote a whole massive match report and my stupid iPad logged me out when I was just about to press submit and I've lost it!![]()

Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...
Double post - deal with it.
I wasn't at the game today and I'm pleased to hear about Thompson's obviously bright league debut. However, I think some of us should remain grounded on his performances. Let's not be too expectant of him to produce these types of performances all the time. His form will undoubtedly peak and trough for a while and we, as fans, need to keep supporting him when his form wavers.
I hope he can make the most of his talent and continue to impress.

Well, we need an extra center back anyway. As someone pointed out on another topic somewhere (can't remember), playing Oastler at CB and Cruise at RB shows that Lingy doesn't want Cruise as a CB, which leaves us with Saah, Downes and MacKenzie for the season. As Downes is banned for a match, that leaves us with Saah and MacKenzie, and no proper replacement. Get one in on loan until January, then another one til the end of the season, unless they want to buy one for the season.Kernowgull wrote:I disagree with wasting a loan for one match. It's worth acknowledging he had a great game though. He's quick and direct but hat pleased me most is he showed he an read a game. His pass to rene in the first half was superb and in the second half his measured effort was only kept out my a great effort.stevegull wrote:Double post - deal with it.

This was the second really fantastic match in succession. Why oh why don't more people want to see these games? We're still not getting crowds we had in the first season in the BSP!
Congratulations to Niall Thompson - the best league debut I've ever seen at Torquay.
However, my MOTM was Rene Howe - a constant handful for both the Dale CBs and the second goal was sublime.
Pokey came a close second for the crucial penalty save and several other class stops to add to several on Tuesday.
Aaron Downes looks a class act and I now believe we have a stronger partnership now than Saah/Ellis. Shame about the red card and a suspension.
Bodin is looking sharp too.
I thought Easton did well as Lathrope's replacement and for much of the match Morris also sound but lost it at the end. He wasn't the only one though and we badly needed someone to hold the ball.
Whilst I understand the comments about Jarvis I think it unfair to judge him as a lone striker. His natural position is the second striker in a 442 formation because 433 or 451 do not suit him.
Well done team - can Kirtys McKenzie do a Niall Thompson and step up in the next match?

Also great to hear it's not JUST pace he brings to the table. If he's got the technical ability to play these passes and link up with other players generally, then things are looking up. I am just keen to ensure us fans don't put too much pressure on him to deliver every time he takes to the pitch - that will take time.exilegull wrote: It's worth acknowledging he had a great game though. bbc website says 30:70 possession to Rochdale, where do they get these figures?
Two cracking games in five days, let's hope we can keep this momentum up at Vale park next weekend?
Only disappointment once again is the poor turnout? This time of year we'd expect to pick up a few tourists to counteract the gulls that may be away on their annual holidays, but 2500 is way too low to be acceptable given the lure of the new stand and favourable reports from Tuesdays match.
come on south Devon public its time to get behind the club, the board have done their buy by providing a cracking little ground, the players and management are providing thrilling matches, just get your arses up to plainmoor and drag friends, relatives, other halves, children, neighbours along with you next time please!

still keeping the faith
An absolutely astonishing game. Rochdale started off as though we would be blown away. Again our midfield looked lightweight but just as against Cheltenham the game was stood completely on its head.
In the second half we were unbelievable and could well have been 8-1 up.
A jaw dropping debut from Thompson - he looks quality. His confidence, strength and composure for one so young was amazing. At last a real prospect coming out of the youth ranks. He is going places that's for sure.
On that peformance Howe is the best centre forward in League 2.
I thought 70k for Bodin was excessive but on the last two peformances that is looking a steal.
No league 2 defence could cope with those three who were on fire. We look a different team going forward this year as we are full of goals.
Signs also that Easton was adjusting to the pace at last.
Key moment of the game - Pokes penalty save. The red card for Downes was a body blow. What a signing he is by Ling. The bonus is he looks like he is going to score evry time he gets in the box.
So after all that waht the bloody hell were we doing in the last fifteen minutes. Yes we had 10 men but the with Bodin,Howe,Thompson and Downes off the pitch we folded like a pack of cards.
What the hell was Cruise doing. Did Ling tell him to play right back because he was clueless. NAthan Craig? - no wonder we have not seen him on the pitch before.
Great game.Great peformance - but for Pokes brilliance in the last 10 minutes we would have actually lost. We were that bad.

Have just watched the FL show and it confirmed my initial opinion that the Rochdale striker was actually running away from the goal(IMO anyway) and therefore Downes should only have received a yellow card at most as rule 12 states the player must be moving towards the goal to be considered a sending off offence.
