As it happens, Carl Fletcher should be a warning as to why Hargreaves might not be the ideal appointment at this time.

Someone on Facebook posted this...

"Confirmed.....
Ray Parlour will be unveiled at a press conference at 12:00 midday tomorrow as the new head coach of Torquay United....."

"So is ray parlour coming to plainmoor??! he's been seen at the ground and shaking hands with back room staff,
Can anyone confirm this!??"

"Just been on the blower to someone up at plainmoor that's "In the know" And yes it's been confirmed that Raymond Parlour is the new gaffer.... Steve Morrow as his assistant......!!"

If this is true, then I don't understand it. I cannot imagine why the club would act to sack a manager to replace him with someone who hasn't really been doing anything. Surely, this cannot be true. Surely the board would not be tempted by a supposed 'name' and jump. It would be a foolish thing to do.

One name on that list would have appealed to me a year ago and that was Dave Hockaday. He was sacked at Forest Green this season but prior to that had done a really decent job there.

There is definitely an assumption that a) the club DEFINITELY has lots of cash and can afford a management duo and b) any popular ex-player will DEFINITELY be a good coach. Phew, I was worried for a minute there.

Some people have lost the plot, a new manager and DoF? Yeah right! We've been forking out money with new loan signings lately, not to mention we have to pay off AK as well now. Also those suggesting bringing in people with little or no experience in management must me crackers, we're second bottom in the football league so to let a novice take over to save us really is ludicrous.

We need a manager not a friend or former fan favourite, we have 5 months to get enough points to survive and then regroup in the summer. We cannot afford to go through managers ever year or two. This appointment needs to be right, I know every choice is a gamble but some gambles are more worth taking than others .. experience and knowledge will prevail generally.
