Torquay United v Slough Town - 5th January 2019
Its yet another game in short succession on a heavy pitch,, therefore a case to start Keating. Either way Keating will get some pitch time in the second half.
He missed a couple of sitters when he came on but his high energy game is bound to have an impact when he comes on. The other option is to play Andrews in the middle and give Hall a rest given that he has played a few games close together after coming back from injury.
The advantage of playing Keating is that Kalala can play on his favoured side of the pitch.
Even with a tired side can't really see anything other than a Torquay win.

I like Keating but he needs to calm down a bit
He nearly got booked within 10 seconds of coming on , on NYD , the ref gave him a warning for an over zealous challenge . I think there are goals in him, he gets in the right positions but then has a rush of blood.

Whilst I back us for the win, Slough are not the same team I saw play in August, both in terms of players and the way they play, they are now confident they can hold their own in this league.
I agree with sentiments expressed about Andrews, he is a class act but a winger he is not, unfortunately with three midfielders who can spray the ball about with vision how do you keep them all happy and have a balanced side, If both he and Lemon-heigh were a little more robust in size I would have no issue in letting Hall roam free, and let the other two loose down the middle to cause mayhem on the opposition, however, I have saw them more than once out muscled in midfield when Hall was recently injured.
It will be good to see Opi when fit and Kalala working the wings as they both have nature pace and aptitude for that role.

They can't be that confident - they lost at home to Truro, that says we have nothing at all to fear.
As for Andrews and Evans being "outmuscled" well they both played in central midfield when we won 4-1 and 4-1 and the opposition couldn't get anywhere near them.
Stop looking for negatives where they don't exist.

Not sure how Brucie reckons I am complaining, I rate all our midfield very highly, but if Johnson decided to play Mcdonald as centre forward do you not think that would be worthy of comment. As for Slough they have the second best goals against in the league and their win ratio is far higher than Truro which shows the result was a flash in the pan.
Neither are we.culmstockgull wrote: 04 Jan 2019, 16:36 Whilst I back us for the win, Slough are not the same team I saw play in August,

Practically the same team, just with a manager now who knows how to get the best out of them. How shit was that Owers bloke?

Would anyone be happy working for Owers in any walk of life?If that is his general persona most people would be considering leaving the post or be in permanent depression.

Whilst I'm sure we are all in agreement that our time under Owers was utterly abysmal, I feel his recruitment deserves some credit.Southampton Gull wrote: 04 Jan 2019, 19:33 Practically the same team, just with a manager now who knows how to get the best out of them. How shit was that Owers bloke?
MacDonald, Niate, Wynter and Cameron (my player of the year so far) were all signed by him and form 80% of the best defence in the league. Hall has also turned out to be a great signing, and he brought in Andrews and Edwards from Brizzle.
Just a shame he was totally incapable of getting them to play well.
Think he might make a good scout for someone.

This will be a very tough game. Slough have a terrific defence.
They only lost 1-0 to Gillingham in the FA Cup and 1-0 to Woking in November both with Home advantage to Slough.
They do not score many but are obviously hard to break down.
I am going for a 2-0 win for United but Slough will make us work very hard for the result.
We look so dangerous going forward I just cannot believe we wont get a couple.

There's one fact you neglect to share in you're prediction Portgull,
We ain't very good at keeping clean sheets lately, we've always it seems got a defensive mistake in us that invariably sees us concede at least one goal & one day , just when we least expect it , it'll come back & bite us in the ass.
Just hope it's not anytime this season, I've had enough of being shat on over the last 5 years .
