Haha, Kingy, you're absolutely priceless. The majority of members in here rub along perfectly genially through the good and average times, sharing a laugh and a joke, celebrating the highs and cursing the lows but generally having a gay old time. Then along come a few defeats and all the doom and gloom merchants come out of the woodwork. This always coincides with an explosion of phrases such as delusional, moron, relegation, denial etc. Occassionally, regulars will make a post, poking a little gentle fun at the 'we're all doomed' brigade and they all come out in force, calling the op and anyone who dares to join in all manner of names. This is when the site ceases to be a pleasant place to frequent, since all the humour is sucked out of it by those who seek only to whinge and moan and condemn us to the Conference, even though, as Troj so rightly points out, we are no worse off than we were last year, a year in which we made the playoff final.
I didn't get personal with you at all, I made a humorous, off the cuff post to attempt to refind some if the fun that has been lost from this site in recent days. You need to man up and stop complaining simply because some of us wish for this site to be a pleasant place to be, rather than the type if place you and your ilk seem determined to make it simply because the team are not top by 10 points.
This site is a community which extends far beyond the XI on the pitch on a Saturday. Please remember that when you log in and start lobbing around your insults and negativity.
Matt.

Was that post to me matt?! I am confused now.... Is there someone else called steve?
And well done for the stats Trojan, and it is quite amusing when some people try and argue with direct facts and statistics.
I am happy to debate with members of the forum who think our side is sliding into the Evo-Stik leagues, but the personal abuse when someone offers a counter-argument has to stop.

Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...

well done trojan. i'm with you 100%
the football fan can be a fickle b*****d at times. when Ling was appointed, many were asking "WTF ??", a few pre-season wins and good performances, none more so than the right royal rogering handed out to City, and Ling is a great appointment. couple this with a win at Rovers, and suddenly he's a hero, we're world beaters, and promotion to Div1 is a mere formality. Really ??
now we lose a few, draw a few, and struggle to perform at an acceptable level for a few games, and Ling doesn't know what he's doing, apparently. Really ??
first thing some of you need to do, is take a deep breath, and decide what you honestly expected at the start of the season. take into account all that happened in the summer, take into account what we were all told in the summer about consolidation, surviving the season, getting the grandstand built etc etc.
now ask yourselves if after the Rovers match, you genuinely believed we would finish the season in the top 7 ??
and finally ask yourself, due to our current run, do you see us as bottom 2 come the end of the season ??
i've not been to the recent games, so i can't pass my own judgement, but the general opinion here seems to be that we are not playing well, on a bit of a bad run, and need a few personnel changes. well, that sounds like a fairly normal TUFC season to me, as highlighted by trojan's "facts" from previous seasons.
and we've so far this season, lost to Crawley, Shrewsbury, Gillingham (all in the top 9 and capable of promotion), and Bradford.
sure, we'd all like to see the team winning and playing better, but some of the comments, about Ling and some of our players, are just ridiculous.

Following on from Regiment, last season we were not expecting a play off final, but there we were. This season we all pretty much agreed that as long as we don't get relegated it has been a succesful season. The club has no money, they are rebuilding the stand and because of the bad run they will be losing home attendances. Away attendance will also drop, and although that does not affect us financially, it will create a drop in atmosphere at away games. With the world being in the financial state that we are in, then people will think twice about going to games if they are going to see a load of crap from Torquay. Therefore again, I would just be happy if we didn't have a religation battle on our hands this season, anything else is a bonus.
We seriously have 1 option and that is to bite the bullet, get through the next couple of weeks (S'end, Dons and Hereford) and the club will need to act dependant on them results. Problem is all 3 clubs coming up are not doing too bad, but our luck / performance has to change sooner rather than later. As for those who are already questionning Ling..... shame on you, he has no money from the board and has had some injuries in the team to deal with. If it isn't Ling who is it going to be....????
I am planning on heading to S'end on Saturday, however due to issues at home I may have to pull out at the last minute (bit like my sex life really).

Nice thread Troj, i think we have to look at it with some balance, i have said a few times the picture can change very quickly, a dodgy penalty decision goes are way a match won could re-start a season who knows that could happen Saturday.
However as i have said in my thread on this, 2006 a winless run started and went on for 18 games and the club went out of league, so yes this is stating the obvious but we are in a situation that could either way, that said i have seen enough int he team for me to believe at the moment that they can pull out of this slump.
Changing the subject , i have known Mike Kinsgull for many years now, some of his kids go tot he same school and are at the same age group as both of mine, in his defence his a totaly decent bloke and a passoinate fan of Torquay, and yes normaly more positive about things than even me.
mike Kingsgull seems very down about the club right now which is out of charactor for him, if he feels the need to post to reflect the way he feels than he has the right, that said Mike other members have te right to counter your view, i just wish sometimes we can just accept peoples views and counter them with out insults, just because someones view is different does not allways make them a moron.

Which is basically what I was referring to, Dave. Somehow Mike seems to have come to the conclusion that he's being attacked for his views, all i see is people putting across a different point of view and then being accused of attacking him personally, that's far from correct IMHO.

It is time for posters to be advised :
If the winless run goes beyond eleven games, then it will be me in doom merchant mode.

I've got a lot of time for him, he's always come across as a really nice guy and I hope he doesn't think I was attacking him just because we have different views.

Sorry Steve, duly ammended. Would you believe I got a text from my mate, funny old thing, his name is Steve, just as I began to type that, which caused my poor, tiny brain to become immediately and at once consumed with an urge to type that name!
Steve... Dammit! Matt.

From that season, if you take out all the goals we gave away in the last 10 minutes of play, we would have stayed up that season.forevertufc wrote:However as i have said in my thread on this, 2006 a winless run started and went on for 18 games and the club went out of league
Looking at the stats again . . .
. . . during the early part of 2009/10 season, we lost four (aye, FOUR) League games on the spin. Toys are being thrown out the pram now and we've only lost TWO on the spin.
As we flirted with relegation straight back to the BSP that season, I'll just remind fans how we finished the last SEVEN games . . .
. . . UNBEATEN, FIVE WINS, TWO DRAWS, NO GOALS AGAINST.

I think there should be a disclaimer actually written underneath the clubs name. Both on the crest of shirts, the welcome to Torquay united sign at the ground, on everything.
'Welcome to Torquay United Football Club.....we're a bit shit and will lose more than we win every season, we're potless but do our best with the resources provided but just chillax and everything will work out most of the time. If you see Richard Hancox within 100 yards of here its time to panic but otherwise it'll be fine...seriously.'
